Won a free holiday? Suspicious? This is the place for you!

Was this The Short Breaks Company? We attended yesterday, but what they didn't say was they have been in liquidation twice. We signed but haven't paid and now have no intention of doing so. I will never be taken in again.

Hi kobieta
You write that you signed but haven't paid. Did they give you a cooling off period? Suggest you write, using recorded delivery, and cancel the agreement otherwise they will ask for payment.

We went to Taunton today for the presentation. The only reason I agrees to attend was the person who cold called me 2 weeks ago promised faithfully I could go this school holidays. We returned from Kenya in March so a cheap school break sounded ideal. I checked everything thoroughly ensuring we could go this year, we had transfers, it was not timeshare point or holiday club etc.

We decided to attend as we were caught in Greece 5 years ago and wasted £3,000 we thought we could smell a rat instantly and come away with a cheap break at least also we were guarenteed at least £50 store vouchers armed with previous knowledge we couldn't lose could we?

The presentation would be multimedia to a group of 30 people, so we would have safety in numbers. I really believed the UK could not operate below certain standards as Greece 5 years ago. I am a retired sales director and felt confident I could sting them back by getting free store vouchers and a cheap week away to boot.

Upon arrival we were met by a salesman, he invited us to a room with approx 15 desks, it was Greece all over again, also RCI posters everywhere. 5 Years ago Club Greece told us they were linked to RCI. I immediately told Simon he was wasting his time as we had been through all this before. We were joined by Dave his manager an annoying black guy who assured us the posters were only reference and this was nothing like our previous bad experience we were in the UK and were protected by laws.

I SAID ON 3 OCCASIONS WE WERE NOT INTERESTED 2 HOURS LATER THETY FINALLY GAVE IN. We were given £10 Asda voucher which is a gift credit card so you don't know the value I understand from this site the chance of getting our cheap holiday is zero. At least we haven't parted with any money, the sales pitch hasn't changed in 5 years exactly the same. The lies we were told today are laughable, he even began by showing us pics of his family. He also told me he has worked on and off for 20 years with the company. He came with us to the car to say goodbye, it appears we won't be going this year after all. Surely something can be done to stop these rogues trading I am sales trained and could see all the tricks they used smooth and sickly con men. I feel relieved we have not paid anything but annoyed that we can't even get our cheap week away. I'm moaning and somewhere some poor family will be £14,000 worse off. They even encourage you to go and borrow the monay despicablr.

It seems to me that a lot of people are attracted by the idea that they can win a free holiday or a dirt cheap one. So most people take the chance, put themselves through a two hour presentation and most people come out with worthless vouchers from companies that don't even exist or are running a full blown scam.

Now how about attending one of these presentations during the promotional holiday? There is a " Fly buy " promotion with a hotel in Madeira called Madeira Regency Palace.

You spend a week in a 5 star resort, in a sea facing apartment that sleeps up to 4 people, for Euro 195 and a 90 minute presentation. Whatever the term you want to use "timeshare", "holiday ownership", "vacation ownership" etc. it all ends up to the same thing. A 90 minute presentation on buying an apartment for a week, for the next 10 years that is linked to RCI membership which will allow you to swap or get additional weeks at excellent prices, at 5 star resorts all over the world. That is what the presentation is all about. The fact is that 8 out of 10 people don't buy anything! And that is exactly what I advise everyone. If after the presentation you're not totally convinced then just say NO!!!

You will NOT be hassled or subjected to any kind of hard selling as they believe the resort sells itself. Besides the fact that Madeira Regency Palace is a five star resort and rated one of the top hotels in Madeira, which pursues excellence and professionalism, they know that even if you don't buy anything, you will most likely reffer the promotion to friends and family.

At the end of the day, this is really a numbers game. The more people see the hotel the more people you will find that want in.

Remember there is no such thing as a free holiday. What you get with this deal is a holiday, in a five star hotel, that would normally cost you over a thousand pounds for about the tenth of the price. The cost is Euro 195 for a an apartment that sleeps 4, for a week, including taxi transfers to and from the airport.

Like we have already mentioned in the last comment, this is no scam and the way it works is as follows:

1) Go to http://www.madeira-seekers.com/PromotionalHoliday.html

2) Read through all the relavent details about the hotel and the presentation.
Have a look through thei photos on the resort.

3) Fill in the application form.

4) You will then be contacted directly by the hotels guest relations manager,
to book the week you wish to holiday in.
5) You may then contact the hotel and ask for her, to ensure this is not a
scam.

6) Once your week is confirmed and booked, you will receive an invoice by email
with instructions on how to pay.

Madeira Seekers is a well known and reputable company that sells all types of tours on the island and would not be promoting this hotel if there was any kind of scam involved.

What a shame you can't afford proper advertisements and use a forum like this to promote your company.
