In exactly the same situation Hilux, we signed (after been worn down) on the understanding there were hundreds of destinations to chose from (not so). We have parted with no money or bank details but have a contract to pay £500 by 11/09/08 with monthly payments for 12 months. Effectively we cannot take a holiday with them for two years!
Given the 'over yolking'/down right lies, surely the contract is nul and void - you are paying for something promised which you won't get?
Their insistance that they are not a timeshare is hardly born out by their recruitment drive www.timesharestaff.com/jobs/lion-resort ... ece-egypt/ (sorry its long)
I too would like to know where I stand, it's causing me sleepless nights and ruining my memories of the holiday
Lion Resorts holiday club
Rogesse I have now been in contact with the citizens advise and they state that they are unaware of anyone being taken to court by such holiday clubs, I have written to Lion resorts and advised them as previously stated that they will recieve no money from me as their company was misrepresented to me, I am only glad that I did not have a credit card on holiday with me, I will now ignore any corespondance from them as advised. I would have to say I like alot of the others on this forum was more than impressed with the Tamra resort and would probably be looking forward to my next years holiday had the deal that was verbally explained to me came to be true, however it transpired to be a lie.

my partner and i also got caught by the scratchcard trap, in paphos last november we were told it was not timeshare but a holiday club, we stupidly paid 500 pounds, on returning to uk did some checking only to find out it was timeshare we have written to Lion Resorts in Paphos to cancel only to recieve a letter this week saying we cannot cancel. Is there anyone else out there who has had the same reply? if so please get in touch .

Thank you Hilux, I will put my disgust in writing and let go of the 'bailiff on my doorstep' fear! You have made me feel a whole lot better!
My biggest bug bear is that they definately stated that we would have hundreds of destinations from which to choose. The rep even wrote '100's' of destinations during her sales pitch.
I am feeling particulary hard done by - where was my free lunch!

Hi blueye
We are idiots who have signed up for the 4 year deal with lion. Can you give us some advice and on how things worked out for you.
By the way did you have to hand over your driving license for identification.

We were on holiday in Latchi, Cyprus about three and a half years ago when we signed an agreement with Lion Resorts and paid the entire cost by credit card - about two and a half thousand pounds. The sun must have gone to our heads as we don't usually do things like this without checking it out well. We were told quite explicitly that it was not timeshare and we could not cancel once we signed up.
When we returned from holiday we checked them out on the web and found some unsavoury entries. We checked up on our consumer rights which said we had cancellation rights within a certain number of days - not sure how many but think it was 14 days. I cannot remember the exact details, as having sorted it I threw the papers away.
We sent off a cancellation letter and then handed the matter over to our credit card company. This large amount was suspended as in dispute and we never heard any more so the credit card company must have recouped the money from Lion Resorts.
Regret that this may not be helpful to those of you who have already exceeded the cool down period for cancellation - but you should fight on!

Sorry to be boring, but we too have been caught out. Same scenario, scratchcard, long presentation etc.
Now we are home (outside the 14 day cool down period!) we are having some major concerns.
Does anyone know how the 6 month credit facility works with Barclays? We paid £500 on credit card and signed a credit agreement for 6 months interest free credit. I am concerned that I am going to recive a new credit card with a balance to be paid of over £2500. Where do I stand with that? Why didn't I listen to that nagging voice in my head?
Something else interesting............if you're looking at the Rehana Sharm Resort, Sharm-El-Sheikh thinking how fabulous it looks, think again. I have read many reviews on this and nearly all of them say the following things:
Not 5* more like 3
Raw sewage is used to water the gardens daily, just imagine the smell!
Stomach bugs are guaranteed
I don't know about you but this is definitely not what I signed up for.
Based on your experiences, is it worth trying to get money back from the credit card company AND can we cancel our Lion membership?

Dear Wendy,
We were conned into an agreement, by chance, when we were touring Paphos in 2005. After realising this and getting back to them we were told that they were not aligned to any Eu regulations as they were based in Cyprus. This was in 2005 of course.
I don't know the details of your agreement but would be most interested to hear about it and contribute to any further action you wish to take against them.
Regards,
Wayne Gordon

Hi We attended a lion resorts sell in sharm in june .e were not fooled by there spiel and did not sign up but was given hard rock voucher which was great and a voucher for a free 7 nights accomadation in either cyprus zante of egypt.
Now after looking hard for a clause or catch i could not find one so on my return phoned them about the freebie holiday and have booked for next year staying at the erietta luxury suites in zante.
We have not paid any money tro them as we just have to get our flightsbut i am worried if it is a scam or that we will be hounded by lion when we get there.Has anyone been onn a freebie holiday and how was it. I would be grateful for any help thanks Kate

Kslh79 - don't book your flights - well not unless you are going to stay somewhere else. My feeling is that you will be continually badgered day in and day out by these unscrupulous b******S. Cyprus is lovely apart from the plague of sratchcard pests.
Poppet2008 - of course go to your credit card company and dispute just about everything. Even though you are out of the 14 day cooling off period. If the credit card company does not help, cancel your credit card and Lion will have to waste effort chasing you for payment - of course they will not. My credit card company was of absolutely no use at all but I am pleased some of you on here managed to get protected.
All - the 14 day cooling off period is fine and applies to Timeshare companies which of course (their words) Lion Resorts are not - though they used to belong to OCE (a timeshare organisation) until their membership was cancelled.
Lion Resorts have learned from their mistakes (i.e. they will not have people changing their minds). That is why they insist on you signing a disclaimer that the initial payment is non-refundable.
In my mind, their ploy of getting different people to handle different parts of the sale and transaction (scam) adds to all the confusion when we are relaxed and on holiday. That is why we have all been duped. I do not regard myself as easily convinced - however I was and I am now kicking myself. STAY WELL AWAY.
