Won a free holiday? Suspicious? This is the place for you!
Is there anyone else fed up with the continuing increase of management fees with Sunterra/diamond resort. My partner has been trying to book a 2week holiday in Sept 2009 in Europe to find its all booked up apart from Santa Barbara in Tenerife which we have been too.. We wanted to sell to find we can only sell to Diamond who are giving peanuts for the points, we thought about just stopping paying the management fees but run the risk of being prosecuted, has anyone else been down this road, and been successful. What a big mistake we made buying these.
You are very lucky they even offered to buy your points. We have been asking for the last five years for them to buy them back from us and all they say is they are not doing a buy back at this time. I cant afford almost £1,200 per year fees, this has almost tripled since i bought them.

Re Sunterra/Diamond Resorts,

we stupidly turned our timeshare into a points system and paid a handsome some in the process.( 2005) we then had a free cold winter's break at Santa Barbara in Tenerife (courtesy of sunterra). Then tred to plan a summer break, forget it, all that was coming up in the system was The Canaries, surprise Santa Barbara again. Eventually we had a winter break again this time at Cala Blanca. ( Gran Canaria 2006)We tried again to sort a summer break ( fat chance) we finally lost patience, we decided to give this lot a wide berth. My wife spoke to one of their staff at Head Office who confirmed they do not buy back the points, we paid our management fees, leaving a nil balance. Sent a letter of cancellation explaining why we felt this way,as requested. We had no communication since 2007 until early this month, we have been threatened with a debt collection agency for outstanding fees since 2007.

PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THESE COMPANIES.

Hi
I am new to this site, but just look under dailymirrorinvestigationsnoanswersfromDRI and you will find loads of people in the same boat not happy with DRI, and lookout for the Marines posts, they give a great deal of information,
I also instructed a solicitor with regards to my membership as did a number of people on the site l have mentioned but still the Marines give better advice.
So take a look.

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I bought our points timeshare with Grand Vacation group for £13000 in 2003 - who were bought by sunterra (which cost us another £2500), who in turn were bought by diamond. Fees have been going up and up.

In early 2008 our business failed and we were unable to continue paying the monthly direct debit for our fees. We have been trying to sell ever since.
Diamond said we HAD to convert to a fixed week in order to sell as they don't allow points to be sold.

In September 2008 my wife and I both registered as unemployed. They are still demanding our 2008 fees plus interest and our 2009 fees that became due in January, plus late charges and interest!!

We've explained our situation over and over, have spent of £300 with companies such as travel and leisure group trying to sell our timeshare. We've even offered to hand it back to diamond at no cost - simply to ask that they wipe out the fees owed.

NOTHING - not even a response from them.

Any ideas or advice on what we should do next?

Cheers,
Ross

Hi Mary

type in google.co.uk then diamond resorts and the 5th titel down diamond resorts shuts out maintenance fees debate, that is a new one, but go to 2nd page and look on answers-some-anyway-from diamond.
That is the blog that is very very informative lots of people in the same boat, lookout for all the marines answers, they are brilliant, they tell you to just send a letter of resignation by registered post, take no notice of debt collectors letters as dri have to take you to court first and get an court order to collect a debt.
I sent a letter of resignation in February, and didnt receive a reply sent anothe in July and have foudn out that my membership has been foreclosed lhave nothing more to do with DRI and l hadnt paid my fees for 2008 or 2009.
So take heart from all the blogs left on the sites l mentioned and Good Luck.

Hi

My husband and I wrote to diamond resorts back in January stating that we no longer wish to be members of daiamond resorts club, and though it would be best to inform them so they could let out the return weeks.

We had nothing until early July when the wrote saying that if we paid up all outstanding fees they would not charge us the interested.

We wrote again informing them of the letter set in January but this time we sent it back recordered delivery, then we received a letter saying that it was not an option and the Diamond Resorts do not reprocess weeks.

I would like to here from any one that has had weeks reporcessed recently then we can use this has an example, surely they can not treat us different they any other poor member.

Thanks for any help any one can give
