First of all go to:

http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2008/12/answers-some-anyway-from-diamo.html#comment-503774

tells you how to get out of it and has a letter from Lee Newbon on July 3rd 2009 saying that DRI accepted his resignation.

Read carefully the posts from "Marines". And make sure you are contacting the corrrect part of DRI.

There is also another thread on the Daily Mirror Investigations threads:

http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2008/11/no-answers-from-diamond-resort.html

And this has a letter of resignation that you can send. Look at March 19th. I would suggest that after that any contact from Debt Collectors is illegal.

we sent a letter canncelling our membership, sent back our member certificate and pointed out that my wife and I have both been unemployed since Sept 2008 - a fact we told Diamond about several times, but they failed to respond to.

This week our certificate came back with a letter saying "sorry we don't buy back weeks and you're still responsible for all outstanding and ongoing fees".
Then the usual list of resellers that charge you £99 a pop to advertise your week "but you'll get it back if we sell your timeshare!" - yeah right. What about when they don't sell it and then ask for another £99!??

Oh, plus £200 transfer fee that Diamond will charge you if you do happen to sell it ...

However, apparently there is a loop hole. If one of you dies they may consider taking it back (but you'll still be liable for any outstanding fees). So ... simply bump off the wife :-)

I have some friends who are members they tell me that they have been told by Diamond reps that Diamond from September 2009 will buy back points from members at 70% of the retail value at the time. Has anyone else heard about this? Just wondered what people's thoughts are?

As Diamond Resorts only recently announced that they would take back, not buy back, points and/or membership if all fees were up to date I can't imagine them actually giving any cash for them. Even if they did, who decides the 'retail value' of the points? As many members have discovered, points can't be sold on the open market and few, if any, existing members want to be landed with even more points with the rapidly rising management fees.

Hi all out there just asking for advise, just back from tenerife and yes day 2 got caught by a sales rep just trying to make her self £50 and we get a free park tickets (great ) or so i thought.

Done me 90 min talk and hard selling but it ended up to be 5hrs and a sign up to £1995.00 over 3 payments by may 2010.

And we get a free (sort of) week away we have to use with in 12 months from may 2010 and then after that 12 months we get a 10,000 points to spend over the next 18 months, so if we like it we pay a £10,500.00 and become a CLUB MEMBER for only 5,000 points.

But as ive read on this forum its not all pretty also with this membership its £720.00 managment fees , I only wanted the free tickets for the park for the family so is there any one out there to help me find a way not to pay these fees and NOT become a CLUB MEMBER then i would be very grateful.
cheers

Following the management fees hike I contacted Diamond Resorts with respect to selling my points (transferring them to weeks and selling the weeks). I was promised that details would be sent in the post but have received nothing after 10 days. I am now taking legal advice regarding Diamond Resorts with respect to taking part in a group action against them and I suggest that anyone unhappy with their treatment at the hands of Diamond Resorts management do the same particularly with respect to unacceptable management fee increases and difficulties in realising the asset value of the points.

See 'http://ownersaction.com' for more details.
