whirlwind - I know this is a big ask - but having gone through this pain - would you post (or send privately) your best approach to doing exactly what you have done? please...
Do you recommend a certain solicitor or person to speak to at companies house?
Regards
Dave

Dear Whirlwind,
My parents in law (both elderly and disabled) are in similar situation. They have stopped making the annual maintenance payments to Canaltime and have received letters threatening legal action. They are desperate to get out of this contract agressively sold to them in 2001 since they have never once taken a holiday. We sought advice from Tony Levene, Saturday Guardian Newspaper's Consumer Rights Expert. He advised us that the TCA recommended stopping the payments and to seek legal advice. We are prepared to pursue matters in the courts if necessary, however we would be extremely grateful if you could advise us what course of action you took and how it proved successful. We hope you can help so we can finally put this distressing matter to rest on behalf of my parents in law.
Thanks,
Lee

Dear Whirlwind,
I have read this entire thread with much interest as my parents are in the same situation. They have never used the boat and just want to sell the timeshare and pay no more management fees.
I read with interest your reply to Lee M Jeans. I will try and contact him as it sounds like we would be doing a similar thing and that anything close to a group of people acting together would be more successful in operation than acting individually.
Any assistance would be most welcome, on behalf of myself and my parents.
Kind regards,
TheMajor.

Dear Whirlwind, Lee M Jeans or The Major
I hit the forum in November when I was locking horns with Abacus Reservations/ABC Boat Mgt/Canalboat Club/Abacus just as you have. They now want £138 as a transfer fee which I'm not inclined to pay and will go to court if necessary. However if Whirlwind's solution worked for him, and LMJ and the Major too I hope, I'd be very grateful if you would send me a private message telling me what you did. Thanks a lot.
I do have news! After taking legal advice and a bit of research at Companies House I was able to 'persuade' Canaltime to accept my timeshare back without any further payment. So my message to you all is DO NOT GIVE UP!
Dear Whirlwind, I have stumbled onto this forum doing some web research on how to be shed of my Canaltime week. I am amazed by the hard work and perseverance demonstrated by folks like yourself. As I now live in the far North of Canada, I am a long way from ready access to UK advice and help. I would therefore be very grateful if you could privately email what you learned about getting Canaltime to take back the timeshare.
Many thanks for your help! And many thanks to all who have contributed to this most informative thread!

hi there Whirlwind and one and all. Like you all I too am anxious to be rid of My Maintenance Milestone of 8 years. We did manage to use the RCI exchange facilitity one year but that holiday has so far cost me £7,000 as it seems virtually imposible to exchange for anyting other than a weeek in sunny canaries. The fab holiday planned and promised for Oz seems a million miles away now. As we have now acquired a dog and Canaltime "would certainly not entern a dog on board the boats" !Whilst we can accept dogs are not everyones cup Of tea, it sounds a bit bizarre for that tpe of holiday. Not realising what a nighmare this whole thing is we nearly sold our week to a friend - who would I am sure have rapidly become ex-friend. And now in desperation am ready to send my cheque for £138.00 but reading your blogs with interest - wonder maybe you could tell me how I can avoid paying this money. Looking forward to hearing from you with hope.
