looking to sell timeshare week without scams
Many Timeshare resort operators are quite genuine, even though expensive, but are tarnished by the sharks. Rather than going through a timeshare sales company, who may well be just another 'shark waiting for a victim', why not ask your resort to sell your week/points through their resale programme? You'll get a lot less than you paid, but at least will be dealing with someone you know. Some resorts keep resales available for buyers who reject the high cost of timeshare purchase.

sgja,
Have you considered looking for internal exchanges through Macdonald? They have a number of resorts in the UK which could suit your needs with your husband's flying phobia.

hi its been a while ,but for any one who might be interested (we were coned by ilg)I followed the advice that fred gave regarding these con merchants and guess what we got our points certificate in the post last week , we did have to put up with them pestering us by phone from spain nearly every day for about afortnight though, so we just stopped answering it ,which was a bit inconvenent, but in the end they gave up .Then we got a few letters asking if we needed any help with the rest of the fiance? we chose to ignore these too, the last time we had any corispondece from them was about may , then as I've already said we got our certificate back last week. We are now waiting to see if we will get our deposit back as well , our credit card company is dealing with this and they have said that this takes a while, but at least we're done with ILG. We have really learn't a lesson from all this and I hope this has helped others who might be trying to sell their time share etc ,if any one wants any money from you for what ever reason, how ever good it might sound walk away or put the phone down BECAUSE IT'S BOUND TO BE A C.O.N I will let you know if we get our deposit back .

SGJA asks if there are any legitimate companies who will buy your timeshare. The answer is yes, there are, but don't expect to be offered anything like the sort of figures being offered by the many scam merchants, most of whom have phoned me over the last three years using the same spiel as another one tried on me this afternoon!
I have successfully sold my mothers CLC Vacation Club points through the following company, which is entirely legit, based in Leamington Spa and a member of OTE. We did not have to pay any upfront fee and the transaction went through easily. And no. I do not have any other connection with this company...
They are:
Timeshare Computer Link Ltd.

We were conned by ILG when we went to their office in Essex in June. We were told a pack of lies about maintenance fees and that we would be pursued by CLC if we did not pay and out children if any thing happened to us. We signed lots of papers including one that said we had no cooling off period. Fortunely for us, the card we used to pay the deposit did not go through as the system was down and we were able to put a stop on the card being used at a later date.
When we returned home we check the website and found that it was not all it was made up to be. We telephoned CLC and asked about the maintenace charges and what would happen if we did not pay and we were told "the membership would be suspended and should this happen CLC would not contact the member further". With this information we felt we were sold a product on a lie and set to cancel it.
We manage to stop the card being used for the deposit and then wrote to them cancelling the agreement.
I have had the OFT looking into this and the agreement that was reach with company in March 2005 inthat it was agreed amonst other things that a 7 day cooling off period too allow the prospective members to cancel the contract.
Today we have receved a letter to say that we are laible to honour this agreement and to contact them to arrange more flexible terms or indeed a compromise and to benifit from this goodwill to phone. This we have done and all they were doing is trying to sell amother package. We have declined and they are now going to pursue litigation at our expense.
Has anyone out there been taken to court over this. To date we have not lost any money having not paid the deposit. Also need to know the advice Fred gave to enable one party to get their certificate back.

Dear clematis please excuse me but am I right in thinking you are saying that ILG are the ones that have coned you ? if so Fred told us to contact office of fiartrading who in turn told us to contact time share association ,they told me to wright to ilg stating that we were cancelling due to the fact of missrepresentaion and we wanted our deposit back plus our CLC certificate. We then contacted our credit card company who are dealing with the deposit side of things, apparently this can take some time, they also told us to ignor any corrispondece and phone calls from ILG which we did ,we did get some letters from them and quite afew phone calls but after awhile they stop and eventually we got our CLC cirtificate back .Do ring the time share association they were very help full, they actually told me what to put in the letter .
