I got a call from makemyholidays offering me a discounted voucher for travel.
Excellent Customer Service. I went to Cyprus and it was good experience through makemyholidays. Trip was well organised.
Just i call customer service number and i told them my destination and they booked for me within an hour and gave me a confirmation mail and call stating the confirmation booking.

Hi,
Last week I had an unsolicited telephone call from Make My Holiday. I usually tell the person on the other end of the phone that I am not interested and put the phone down.
I think I must have been bored! The lady was offering some discounted holiday to Auli in India. I obviously had no intention of taking up the offer, but asked where she was based. She said New Delhi. I have made several visits to India and know several parts quite well. New Delhi is particularly tedious and busy; many other places - and people - are wonderful. I spent about 10 minutes telling her about the places I had visited, and how wonderful they were. She gave up, and did not protest when I told her I was ending the call!

Thank you also to the contributor who gave the Telephone Preference Service website. I will key in! Don't be put off India though - travel with companies like Exodus, Adventure Company, Jules Verne, and other reputable companies which go off the beaten track.

(Auli, by the way is near Rikikesh; supposedly a ski resort. The guidebook says there is not much there - one chair lift & a tow rope ....!)

Just had a very persistant tele sales guy trying to get me to buy a package from makemyholidays.net, told him I was disabled which is true and he talked to his manager and kindly offered me the mid range package for the lowest price.
I refused to pay up on the spot as I wanted to talk to my partner and also do some research what I've come across so far is very negative, he's calling back later, and of course my answer is going to be a big NO!! What concerned me was his comments about knowing how many debit cards I have and that I would'nt need to disclose and bank info, how can they have all my details????? I didnt give him any information, its very worrying!!!!
So just a warning to any one who gets these people ringing up, be careful, they seem to know way to much!!

Hi kez18
They could have done a credit search but as far as I know this will only give your credit rating and not your full bankers details. If you look up your own credit rating it is surprising what is on it and maybe something you need to look into. For what it is worth I think you are correct in saying a big NO to these folk. Good luck with your conversation with them.

Wills15

How could they do an accurate credit search on the details given?

It was a cold call to see if we've found a sucker and should be treated as such without you making things worse by scaring them with threats of credit checks.

Just for the record what info was the credit check based in?

peter.s: My aim was not to scare kez 18 but just to point out that scammers appear to stop at nothing to find information about people and seem to have legitimate ways of doing so.
kez18: My apology if I did scare you, this was not my intention.

Okay guys - we all need to steer clear of this bunch of robbing sods. I was taken in and parted with 91 pounds for vouchers in March this year by a very good sales/conman on the telephone.

I received my vouchers altho had not a chance to use them as yet when I got another call fron the same salesman in May this year. He said that he had sent me the wrong vouchers (senior citizen) which I am not and he had to cancel my vouchers immediately he has paid ( apparently) the full money back into my debit account and he needed me to give him my details again so that he could sendme the correct vouchers. I refused to give him my card until I could check online that the money was back into my account. He was sooo plausinle it was unbeleivable he said come one Karen you know me I work for a reputable company who works on word of mouth we would never do anything dishonest to you. I handed the phone to my husband telling him to get rid of him and he too was taken in!. I subsequently gave him my credit card number ( oh what an idiot) and lo and behold I had a payment taken out of my credit card within minutes for $112 US dollars and it was credited to THE 1 STOP COMPUTER COMPANY!!!!!

I have been well and trully conned. I immediately froze my card.
I called makemyholidays and they said it may be an ex employee and said to me dont talk to anyone else but me ( Tony from Customer Services) and he sounded genuinly concerned. When i called back to spk to Tony I found myself speaking to someone who said he was Tony but sounded just like the sales con guy I spoke to who stole my money!! and he didnt seem interested at all! I have emailed a complaint but so far I have had no response.

Please Please do not do not be as stupid as me and give your details not once but twice !!!! I am now out of pocket 165 pounds!!

Those who have warned of the dangers of signing up with the makemyholidays people are quite correct. Reading various posts on the internet regarding these crooks it appears they have a few different approaches to their scam.
In my case, I booked at a price of just short of £80. They took this payment then the following month took an unauthorised payment from my debit card of £269. The Customer Services people sound sympathetic and pretend to be helpful but I know when I am being given the runaround. Calls to their head office in London reap no rewards as the calls go unanswered. Emails and letters receive the same treatment. I got my £269 back from the bank but have still lost the initial £80.
Be in no doubt these ARE scam artists. Part with no money if they call you but do feel free to sit on the phone with their sales people for as long as you wish before telling him to £$%&* off.

Steve as a serial booker of late holidays at low prices I usual tend to book only at prices that are realistically possible. If I saw a s/c week for anywhere for only £80 unless it was after 20:00 hrs for the next day departure I wouldn't touch it not even with your credit card. :D

One thing you should have learned though is when buying anything online use a credit card and not a debit card. If the deal is over £100 and the supplier doesn't fulfill it's part of the contract the money taken from your account will be refunded using a C Card

This fact has been widely published on the net for years so why peeps use debit cards for online transactions beggars believe.

Oops I can't believe anyone using a few trivial assumed details cannot get a credit card. Christ I get at least 2 unrequested credit card application forms a month so they want me more than I want them.
