Thanks for the advice but it doesnt really fit in this instance. I DID get the unauthorised payment back from the bank and as the other payment was for £80 then it would be below the £100 threshold.
Another good reason I use the debit card is that I am not currently able to hold any credit cards.
As for the original deal, I was somewhat sceptical but remember we are not talking flights here. Its just two weeks accommodation and when you actually book holiday dates they charge another £40 booking fee. So thats £120 in all for room only. Still a good deal so I figured there was one or two possibilities on this.
1. Scam (as it turns out to be)
2. They do it cheap and then they give you the hard sell on some timeshare nonsense at their presentation which you must attend.

In a way I leaned towards the second one and took a risk thinking £80 was no great loss. I was willing to be bored senseless for two hours for the cheap room deal. I was unprepared for the theft of £269 from my account though. I didnt anticipate that.

Steve

Thanks for the details and yes £80 does not seem excessive for room/sc only as long as it was booked a month before departure.

A week before departure £20 for the same rooms would be more appropriate but each to their own. Not everyone is as flexible about dates and destinations as I am.
