| I have just been hung up on after 49 mins on hold to Direct Holidays Customer Service. I think this is my 10th to 15th call to them. I could SCREAMMMMMMMMMMM. Due to bad health we can not go on hols in July to Gran Canaria and not havn Travel Insurance as take it out a few weeks b4 we go usually (never again). We decided to cancel hols but to our surprise were told if we do cancel we can actually re-book as long as we take our hols within 12 wks of original departure date. To say the least we were delighted. So after calling and paying the rest of of our deposit on Sat explaining where we wanted to go etc to the girl she was going to transfer £480 deposit to new hols, she tried to get onto the Sales team but couldn't and I was promised a call at 240pm to do booking. No call to date (Tues 730pm) Bank hol Monday came and went and I called this morning hold for 18mins) to be told definetely can't book another holiday more or less the way the Admin of Cancelling prev hols was done can't transfer £480 anymore. Surely this can't be right. Asked to speak to supervisor after holding for 49 mins they then hung up on me. I am fuming mad does anyone know if I can take this further?????????

| T. Cook don't give pre-printed labels as they are a security risk. There was an increase in burglaries as criminals got hold of addresses from luggage tags and knowing people were on holiday, broke into their homes.
Putting your address inside the case is the best bet.
As for contacting T. Cook....it's a nightmare! Just deal with them by recorded delivery, keep copies of what you send and give them 28 days to respond. They have to by law.
However, that doesn't mean you will get an answer! It will probably be on the lines of: 'we are investigating' and will drag on. best to get legal advice from Citizens Advice Bureau to check you have a strong enough case and then take them to County Court.
You will soon get a response and probably an out-of-Court settlement offer.
A word of advice: don't accept the first offer (which in itself is an admittance of fault on their part). Why would they offer you anything if you did not have a good case? And don't accept money off vouchers; they don't count if you get other discounts when booking a holiday.
Always give them photocopies of evidence and not the orginal document....this is your proof!

| well Helspeth, if Thomas Cook did send you preprinted labels it would probably be for the wrong flight on the wrong date to the wrong country and the wrong hotel. Apart from that I am sure they would be great

| I am also ready to scream having spent a frustrating and upsetting afternoon and evening 5th June on Thomas Cook's 087 numbers to cancel our holiday due to the death of my mother inlaw that day. At one stage they got back to my mobile and put me on hold after i had already been on hold for several long periods. Eventually after 45 minutes i managed to ge through to their Peterborough Office and was assured we would get proof of cancellation for our insurance company. I followed up with a letter on 10th June. I am still waiting. What annoys me is that they can answer quick enough if you want to book or pay money to them. I shall never ever book with them again.

| Like lil-em said try 01415 597 000.
I always use saynoto0870.com to track down geographical numbers for the companies than insist on us using 0870 and 0845 numbers. It surprises them sometimes when you get though but they always transfer you to the area you want - and if you've got free 01/02 arrangement with your phone operator its 'free', and not 5p/10p per minute!
Other number listed for Direct Holidays & Thomas Cook are:
01158 532400
01324 565295
01274 384658
01415 597073

| does anyone have a contact address for me to write to thomas cook?? I have just returned from a holiday to the hotel buenaventura in playa del ingles gran canaria which was booked with direct holidays, i stayed in this hotel in 2006 when i actually worked for direct and had a great time however this time it was quite possibly the worst holiday i have been on, our room was surrounded by a large quantity of german teenagers on some kind of 18-30s holiday. in the brouchure it says that it is a lively hotel and im 23 so it as not as if i want peace and quiet but what we had experienced and had to listen to was absoloutly disgusting, the holiday got off to a bad start when the coach driver gave my partner the wrong suitcase, it was exactly the same size/colour and next to mine however when we went to unpack we discovered it wasnt his, luckily i managed to get hold of the T.C resort office and they returned the correct case to us within the hour. We couldnt even get any advice from our rep apparently called abi as we did not see her once fair enough we missed our welcome meeting due to having to get out of our room after being woken up at 6.30am by thumping techno music but whenever we havent been to welcome meetings before weve either had reps come to our rooms to see us or at least put a note through our door. this is the second time we have travelled with thomas cook this year and both time their reps have been no where to be seen however they are quick enough to hand out customer service questionnaires on the plane for us to say how "great" they are, unfortuanatly for us both times we have been on thomson flights so did not get these questionnaires.

| My father in law had a heart attack and I could not cancel the holiday by phone, fax, email or in person at a Thomas Cook shop!!!!!!!! (I booked with Thomas Cook Direct). It was a stressful and upsetting situation without all the hassle of not being able to contact Thomas Cook. What the hell is going on there?? 30 minute wait to get the phone answered! Then, a 5 week wait to get the cancellation invoice to begin my claim. They received my letter of complaint on 4.7.08 but no reply yet. Absolutely disgraceful. I will never book direct again. My phone bill was terrible.
