| Having looked around a number of Forums it is becoming clear that what is advertised as 'Self-Catering' frequently is not self-catering at all in that there is not enough in the kitchen to cook a simple meal for two and the biggest plate is a soup bowl as was the case for us recently.
This is more common where there is a bar/restaurant attached to the property and they clearly want to encourage us to eat there rather than in our apartments.
Despite having an office in the resort and reps visiting the apartments our travel agent was not the least interested saying we should have taken it up with the proprietor of the apartments. Well, perhaps, but I don't really want to spend the first day of my holiday fighting for every knife, fork, plate and saucepan. Is it really too much to expect that the inventory be checked before each new arrival?
We pay our money to the travel agent not the proprietor. Can we not expect the agent, with reps on the ground, to try to ensure that what they advertise as 'Self-Catering' is actually that?

| Hi i totally agree with what you are saying about the iventory we went to butlins 2 years ago self catering and on 1 of the doors in the kitchen was a list of what was in the cuboards and a note to say that the items would be checked after each group has checked out and another checking in and that if there wasany missing then a bill would be sent to the last people staying in there.I know this may sound harsh but i bet there was hardly ever anything missing, I personally dont go on many sc holidays but i can understand how frustrating it would be to try and cook a meal only to discover there was nothing to eat off.

| Having Holidayed in Proper Self Catering Resorts over the last 15 years
ie Holiday Ownership//Private Membership Clubs. We would be appaulled to pay top dollar and find arrogrant Holiday REPS!!as you described. Even though all resorts we have visited do have fine restaurants, bars etc..Each unit where we have stayed, offer Full Kitchens including Full Oven and Hob, Micro-wave Full set of utensils, pots and pans, enought Plates, Cups and Saucers, Soup dishes etc including Glass-ware!! That you could easily invite guests. Furthmore staff at these resorts go the extra mile, so All enjoy our Holiday!!

| I suppose it depends on luck of the draw?
We always get good facilities when we go self catering , although we do eat out on our hols a lot we do have a choice of whether to stay in and do pasta or something.
We have done lots of hotels/apartments in the canaries and Greece and found them to have good equipment.
Sometimes though its a case of over guests nicking stuff.
I remember our hotel owner telling us that people pinch remote controls and stuff?
