Read all the C&Ts.
My wife and mother inlaw got their tickets with a note to remind them they had not ticked the box when booking to choose to put their baggage in the hold when they go on holiday,( checking the small print at the moment) so they were not allowed to take any with them unless they pay an extra £36.
Where else is your luggage going to go on a plane for christ sake but in the hold , you go on a holiday ,you take luggage so it should not and can not be an option.

A cheap con trick and that is why their initial prices are cheap.

I hope this is the next holiday company to go to the wall.

Hi robhar, I am sorry we have upset you so much, remember that will be my job gone...

After the no frills airlines (Ryan Air and Easy Jet for example) started it, a lot of other airlines followed suit.

It is an old chestnut for online travel agents whether to include this cost, or not. If we include it, we will upset people who dont spot we have included it for them, and then say they didnt want it. If we dont include it, we upset the people who did want it. In most cases you cant remove it once it is booked. We dont generally like including extras for customers that that 'might' want, we offer them, but give them the choice to select them, rather than making them spot they are there and deselecting them.

You are right in saying that most people do take baggage in the hold, but approximately 20% dont. Also we see large families that only pay for baggage for the adults, so saving on the cost.

If you would like me to add baggage for your wife and mother-in-law click on my name at the side of this reply and send me the booking ref in a private message. I cant get you any discount as that is what the supplier will charge us, but can save you the hassle of contacting us by phone or online customer service request.

We will never rebook with Travel Republic and have been left at least £120 out of pocket following October trip to Tunisia and a fiasco of accommodation reservations involving Med Hotels, Holiday Brokers, Royal Azur Hammamet and Travel Republic.
Our holiday was completely ruined - we spent 2 days out of 7 trying to sort out our blocked hotel reservation, had to pay direct to the hotel again for 2 nights, and ran up phone and taxi expenses in the resort before we were forced to switch hotel. Travel Republic told us we would be refunded once we got home but, surprise, surprise, took months to answer letters, passed the buck back to the hotel booking company which WE could not access, avoided the main issue. TR had known there was a problem before we left to go on holiday but just sent us off to the resort to face the irate manager of the Royal Azur who had not been paid by someone in the Med Hotels/XL collapse.....
Nothing to do with us, but we were the ones sitting in a hotel lobby at 1.30 am with no booking, no rooms and a hotel telling us to leave.
Reading some of the above posts, it would seem that this is how they have been carrying on all over Europe. I will be telling anyone who mentions Travel Republic to me to be very very wary of booking with them.

Hi Leon59,

We (at Travelrepublic) seem to have upset you in some way. You have only made two posts on this forum and they both seem to pass comment on Travelrepublic without being at all specific.

Travel Republic gets court summons over ATOL breach The CAA has started legal proceedings against Travel Republic relating to alleged breaches of the ATOL regulations. The news came as the CAA said it was taking action against agents who had illegally sold flights of failed XL Leisure companies...

and

Total Financial Protection .....you joking...it is bull shittttt...Do not book with Travel Republic...They are not principal..They are not tour operator..

If you would like me to investigate any issue you have with our services, then please raise it here, or send me a private message, and I will endeavour to get a response for you.

In the meantime, I cant comment too much on the CAA action against some travel agents as hearing is in a few weeks, but we sold ATOL flights to customers acting as agents for Freedom Flights (part of XL). Now the CAA does not agree we did this correctly. We will find out soon.

The Total Financial Protection has been put in place to offer customer protection for hotel or flight suppliers should the worst happen and one of them goes into liquidation. Travelrepublic is an ABTA Travel Agency, so in that most unlikely circumstance, ABTA will protect you by ensuring that the individual providers continue with your bookings as planned or, where that is not possible, by giving you a refund for any services that cannot continue.

Full details of the Total Protection Scheme is detailed here

http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk/help/totalFinancialProtection.aspx

Once again, please get in touch if you think I can help you with a particular problem!

I have a question to the Travel Republic representative currently replying queries from public.

Having checked a particluar hotel on the website - and finding it exremely cheap - I phoned the hotel in question and only to find out there is no contract between the hotel and TR. In fact the hotelier did complain that not only his hotel some others are being advertised in UK with fictitious prices.
Although TRmay have these hotels through another agent - that would make them more expensive not cheaper in this case (double the profit added to the public price)

Then I made a reserarch with travel press only to find that there is an imminent court case between CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and Travel Republic backed up by Thomsons Holidays relating to XL Airlines demise and possible unacceptable licence paperwork.

The case being brought is immense in size - having read all this I am pretty concerned as losing this case will certainly have a detrimental affect on TR.

I therefore invite the Travel Republic representative to make a comment
I am not a lawyer by the way - this information is widely available on the net should anybody cares to look for it.
I started my mission purely on the famous phrase
"if something is too good to be true, it probably is!" Certainly the case when the hoteliers never offer these prices to Operators but Operators seem to "make them up"...
