Travel Republic

Find out the lowdown on who you hand over your hard earned cash too!

In reply to Scout1564.

For some hotels we have over 20 suppliers, who WILL have contracts direct with the hotel. The hotel may not therefore have a contract with Travelrepublic, so will not know who we are. The profit/mark up from the hotel rate is nowhere near double the rate the supplier charges us. You will find single figure percentage mark-ups more the norm than double figure ones if we are being honest.

There are many hoteliers looking worried in the direction of the UK though, so some very competitive rates have been negotiated by our suppliers, to make sure us Brits still go on holiday this year!

It is hard to comment on the court case, as it is current.

i booked a holiday with this company in December 2008 for the chritmas break, unfortunately my trip turned out to be a disaster, on my return i complained to travel repulic, it took the company a month to realise that they could not open the email attachment i had sent them, however on each occasion i rang the company, the staff told me that the complaint was being processed, anyway i resent my complaint and waited another 30 days to receive responses from travel republics suppliers (As travel republic is only an agent, the company passes on your money to third parties who actually supply the service). The hotel company offered a refund, however Travel republic still took thier commision from the proceeds, to which i was extremely disappointed as i had not resided at the hotel. My dispute is on going TR republic and its staff need some education on telephone ettiquette, i will never use them again and want other consumers to be vigilent. Alway read the small print. Caveat: You dont have the same holiday proctections from travel republic as they do not book package holidays.

I BOOKED WITH TRAVEL REPUBLIC AND FOR SOME REASON MY WIFES SURNAME WAS MISS SPELT! TRAVEL REPUBLIC WANTED A WHOPPING £80 TO AMEND IT! IN THE END THE AIRLINE KINDLY AMENDED IT AT NO COST.

FINALLY A WORD OR TWO ON BOOKING SEATS OR HOLD BAGGAGE IF YOU ARE FLYING
'NO FRILLS. BOOK THROUGH THE CARRIER AS TRAVEL REPUBLIC WILL CHARGE YOU A LOT MORE THAN THE AIRLINE ITSELF.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

It then recommends i close page and don't visit site. When i contacted Travel Republic their adviser said it was probably my Norton security, it did the same with her managers computer, and i should be O.K. What do you think.

Having read a few posts regarding Travel Republic (TR) I would have to agree that their customer services leaves a lot to be desired. My daughter and her friend booked with TR last year. The holiday was to Majorca however the TR salesperson managed to book them on a flight to Menorca. Unfortunately this error was not found out until they tried to book in at the airport on the day of the flight. Travel Republic were almost impossible to contact and were not very helpful in trying to sort things out. Another flight was eventually booked by TR later in the day however this was via Cardiff airport. There was also the added expense of getting back to Glasgow airport again for the second flight (they had to return to Bathgate before all this was sorted out). All the links to/from the airport in Majorca had to met by my daughter and her friend. The return flight was via Midlands airport. A complaint was lodged on their return. This was sent to TR in September and my daughter and her friend only received a letter with a promise of compensation this week (10 March). The compensation on offer was however insulting and derogatory (they have been promised £20 each – which hardly covers the transfer link between the airport and resort).

My advice would be to use a more reputable company. I work in a large office and I will certainly not spread any positive recommendations about Travel Republic. I am also considering reporting their miserable compensation offer to ABTA.

I would strongly advise anyone to find another travel agent to use. Even book it yourself. Aside from having the worst customer service I have ever experienced they have made sure in emergencies you are going to be screwed. I booked with them then had an emergency that would have prevented me from travelling (mind you this was a month before i was due to leave)

They wanted to charge me £120 to change the name on the ticket, and the cost of canceling the hotel was strangely enough the exact cost of the hotel. I have had to cancel hotels before in the past and i have never paid any fees once i canceled 14 days in advance. Here TR charged 100% of the full cost as a fee. I have never come across any agency that treated their customers with such disdain or contempt as this one.

I travel for my job, its my livelihood, and this company is absolutely horrid. It looks god on surface, but when you get into the details of what they do you find out how bad they are. You can find better elsewhere.

Vramch:

Understand where you are coming from but i think i should explain the following to you too.

I am an agent myself and with most accommodations we book, these are all through accommodation suppliers whereby even though the hotel may not actually charge to cancel the reservation, the accommodation supplier will. Plus Travel Republic will set their own terms on top of what the suppliers are which you would have agreed to at the time of booking.

The flight ticket charge, well again depending on the airline, these charges will vary, easyjet for example will charge you £20per person per sector as an admin fee plus any difference in fare. Travel Republic will also have their own terms on top of this too.

Like any agent or tour operator, why should a company loose out on its profit plus the time spent dealing with it and just say oh don't worry, have your money back it is fine. Any tour op or agent will work in the same way.

Also, if you have insurance and it was an emergency preventing you from traveling then maybe you can claim through them for any losses. I suspect that even though you are a regular traveller, Travel Republic probably came out with a much better rate than you would have got going direct to the hotel.

Thanks

If your thinking of using Travel Republic you would be better giving your hard earned money away to charity "At least it would go to a good cause"

This company is the most UNPROFESSIONAL I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!

They mislead you on selling the package holiday and stress you out before you even touch ground at your destination.

Although they are good for one thing and that is wait for it "taking your money"

Try calling them and I guarantee you will remember the words to every song with their on-hold telephone system.

Don't be a fool to believe my experience was a one off.
