I would just like to say a big thankyou to Travel Republic. We where caught up in the XL problem but thanks to them we have had a full refund except for £30 admin fee on the cancellation of accomodation which i don't think is bad. I have spoken to alot of people who have been affected by Xl and the companies that they have booked through are not giving refunds or if they are they are a very small proportion of what they originally paid.
When XL went we where already holding our tickets so i went onto Travel Republics website and they advised people to rebook flights and accom if possible, which we did. I then emailed them to say what i had done. They did get back to me, whilst i was on holiday to say that the monies would be refunded back to my bank account as soon as possible and low and behold on returning to England the money was in my account.
I have used Travel Republic for the last 3 years, twice a year and have never had any problems with them.
Once again a big thankyou to them and people who are not sure about using them have no fear they are a great company with great rates.

I have used travel republic many times over the last 3 years and as long as you dont have any hiccups on holiday then you are fine especialy with the cheap prices but as far as problems in resort, they dont want to know.I had a problem with the hotel on the last holday and had to contact TR and they were useless,The hotel management were very intimidating and I had to leave the hotel a couple of days early for my second leg of the holiday when I returned to resort I couldnt very well stay at the hotel that I had left early so I had to pay for another hotel,I also lost the money for the couple of days I left early and had added expense on another hotel.I rang TR and they told me they had spoken to hotel manager and decided to believe his side of things, whatever happened to "the customer is always right?",When you travel with TR just hope and pray that nothing goes wrong in resort because you are on your own. They have had your money now get on with it!

Would suggest caution when using Travel Republic. We are approx £250 out of pocket from rooms we believed to be booked by Travel Republic, but then passed onto another company in Spain who did not honour the booking and on arrival at the hotel in Cairo Egypt,(who had no record of the booking even though we had all receipts),we then had to pay for another two rooms.
Another caution, Travel Republic claim to be a member of ABTA, but they then,(completely unknown to the customer), pass you on to a 3rd party who is NOT cover by ABTA!!!

Hi Elaine, I am sorry to hear about your problems in Egypt. I would like to clarify a few of the points that have been raised.
TravelRepublic is an ABTA travel agency, our ABTA number is 43805.
When you book with us, we source the flight, hotel, transfer from third part suppliers, which are declared at the time the booking is made.
I think there may have been some partial resolution ot this matter, which I dont really want to discuss in public as it is Elaine's business, but feel it is worth a mention as it completes the story somewhat.
It was not the total solution Elaine mayhave hoped for, but went about half way towards it.

Hello Steve, thank you for your comments.
But, to the general public, please be aware and read Travel Republics ''terms and conditions'' and do not be lulled into a false sense of security by them being ABTA members. Also please be aware of Travel Republic's ''Limitation of Liability'' a part of which I quote:-
''Limitation of liability''
For the avoidance of doubt, your booking is directly with the Travel Provider and Travel Republic accepts no liability or responsibility for any aspect of your bookings or travel arrangements.
Specifically, we will not be liable for any act or omission by any person not employed directly by us and whilst we have chosen our Travel Providers with care we have no control over our Travel Providers and so cannot be held responsible for any action or omission of our Travel Providers or their servants, agents or employees.''
What is the point of boasting ABTA membership?!!
Yes Steve, there has been ''some partial resolution'' to this matter, following a ruined(and what turned out to be a very expensive) break, 4 months of complaints and approx 60 emails over half of which were not answered. However, we will continue to pursue this matter through trading standards, media etc etc .
The bottom line is WE had to pay dearly for someone else's mistake including the ongoing embarassment and stress this caused everyday at the hotel.
As for Travel Repulics ''customer services'' well ....and again I quote:- Complaints
''We pride ourselves on delivering the highest standard of customer service but if you have any dissatisfaction regarding your travel arrangements they should be reported to the relevant Travel Provider or their local supplier or agent immediately''.....talk about ''passing the book ''need I say any more?!!

Hi Elaine, I am sorry you still feel aggrieved about the events of your recent holiday.
What you say about ABTA is to a certain extent correct. ABTA do a better job than I would so this link will help people who want to read the full story.

The reality of the situation is somewhat different. When XL Holidays went into liquidation, TravelRepublic had 500 customers on holiday in hotels, that Medlife (part of XL group)were longer willing/able to pay for. Travelrepublic contacted the hotels directly and paid for the customers hotel stay, on behalf of Medlife, rather than possibly leave people stranded.
When a customer is on holiday, and experiencing difficulties we ask that they initially contact the accommodation provider, who has contracted the room with the hotel they are staying at. If this does not work, customers are invited to contact Travelrepublic directly so we can assist with the problem while cutomers are still on holiday. We have a dedicated 'In Resort' team specifically for this purpose.
Once again, I apologise for the difficulties you have encountered, and if you would like to talk to me offline (please post whether it helps or not after, I am not avoiding the public eye) I will see if we can get any further with your particular holiday problem. I will send you a private message so we can begin to talk.
