I was delayed coming back from New York a few years ago. Flew with Air India and one of the engines shut down on the runway as we were about to take off. :|

They put us up in a hotel till the next day and 24 hours later we were off.

Got home and called insurance company. Offered 100 compensation for delay..... with and excess of 75. hmmm

Always check Insurance Policy that you are purchasing. A policy may be cheap, but does not always cover some aspects of your holiday that a more expensive policy would.

Questions to ask yourself when going on holiday

Will I be participating in Dangerous Sports (if yes, take extra cover)
Will I be taking an expensive item with me (remember, single article limit on policies apply, check the limit)
Do I have any illness that I should declare (if yes, take extra cover if poss)
Do I wish to have a policy excess in exchange for a cheaper policy (policy excess if the first part of any one single claim that the insured person must pay)
What is the limits for theft on the policy (i.e. single article limit, cash limit etc)
What coverage do I have for delays, cancellations etc.
DONT BE CAUGHT OUT!
READ THE SMALL PRINT!

Best to purchase from an Insurance Broker where correct information will be given and the best price given.

If you are wondering why I know a bit about insurance policies, I was involved in Insurance Loss Adjusting before becoming a travel agent!

During my holiday a scuba diving school came around giving a taster in the pool to get customers. What they didn't tell anybody to check their insurance to make sure they are covered in the event of a accident. How many people go on these starter dives not covered. I was going to take my children on the dive but after checking my insurace we were not cover for scuba diving so I cancelled the trip.

Diving schools normally have their own insurance covering guests for dangerous sports.

Our guests are always covered with our Diving Company with Dan Europe Insurance.
