New powers to help tackle truancy and bad behaviour in schools come into force tomorrow.
Parents whose children fail to tow the line will face 100 on-the-spot fines and compulsory parenting classes.
They could also be fined if they take their children on holiday during term time without the school's permission.
The new powers are part of the Government's Anti-Social Behaviour Act, which was passed last year.
Despite repeated attempts to do something about the problem, around 50,000 children are absent from school in England each day.
Town centre sweeps have shown that around half are out with an adult - often one of their parents.

Parents face school fines from tomorrow
Well, I actually got my kids holiday forms, sent into school and returned authorised last week, If they had not have been given the nod, I would still take them on holiday in June.My kids do not have time off for nothing, they have to be dying on their feet before they are allowed to stay off. I think it should be left to parents discression.

Parents face school fines from tomorrow
I asked my sons school about the new procedure this morning and was told that there is a form to fill in which will be signed by the Head and returned to the parent (whereas last year we just filled in the form, it was never returned). She said that in reality the school wouldnt impose fines, it would mainly be used for people that regularly took their children out of school for whatever reason.
