Best resort in Tunisia?

Postby gday2uk on Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:04 am

Can anyone recommend the best resort in Tunisia in terms of entertainment and things to do in the daytime / evening? I have been looking to go to the Tej Marhaba Hotel, Sousse but wondered if it would be quiet in the evenings. We would be going end of August for two weeks and don’t want to get bored! Are there lots of bars and shops etc. open at night in Sousse? Me and the wife are in our late twenties but we’re not the clubbing type, just like to go for nice walks and sit and people watch outside a nice bar with a cocktail or three :)
Also how much are drinks in the hotels if you go half board roughly? The last two holidays we have been on were AI and it can feel like you’re trapped in the hotel as you’ve already paid for the drinks.
Any help much appreciated, thanks.

I have been to Port el kantaui twice,it is very quiet and relaxing.
At night you can sit around the marina in the several little restaurants.
Sousee is a lot bigger place, i have visited in the day time but not at night but their is a lot more places to visit ie bars and i have seen a couple of night clubs.
These 2 resorts are about 4 miles apart and you can travel between the 2 either by taxi, bus, horse and carriage or the noddy train.

I would suggest Sousse, if you stay at the Tej Marharba, El Hanna complex or Rhiad Palms you will be close to both the city centre and the areas where all the bars and clubs are, Port El Kantoui is very pretty but may be a bit quiet for you and there are plenty of cheap ways to get to El Kantoui should you wish too. I would suggest any of the hotels I've mentioned as they are within walking distance from both the night life and Sousse centre a lot of the hotels in Sousse are quiet a way from the amenities especially the All Inclusive ones, some are nearer El Kantoui.

Compared to your usual Euro destination it is very cheap to eat out also locally produced Alcoholic drinks are very good and cheap, last year I paid 3 Dinar for a large bottle, roughly about a pint and a half of what they call Stella (not to confused with the brand we know) A dinar was about 40 pence, the most common bear is Celtia and a 330ml bottle will cost between 1.8 and 2 dinar generally.
