Skanes is a very nice area very clean and cosmopolitan. We went their a few times as it is not far from Monestir. We found the shops and market to be value for money. We did not take any sterling as we used the cash machines whilst we were there. Go with an open mind and you will have a good time.

:) Money changing is not a problem - it's a closed currency and you get the same rate in hotels as in banks, and they'll take anything - cash or travellers cheques! You can pay for stuff in hotels by credit card, but they're harder to use out and about in shops. We're going again at Christmas, which will be our sixth visit to Tunisia, so they're definitely doing something right.

Having been to Tunisia twice '02 & '04 i would recommend that you always carry some Sterling & a calculator, on my last visit i was haggling over a leather jacket for the equivelant of about 100, but when i asked how much in Sterling their eyes lit up and the price dropped to 80. Bouyed by this i began to haggle to the lowest price in Dinars & then try to negotiate a further discount for Sterling, it works!!! !!!
