Hello!

Had a browse on here and found some really good advice but wanted to clear some points as some people say one thing and others completely go the other way.

Me and the Mrs are going to Skanes in September for the week half board.

We know we cant get Tunisian dinar anywhere but in Tunisia and we plan on doing the following:

1. Take £200 cash with us and change at the airport/hotel (depending on how rushed we are to get on the coach).

2. Take money off my Visa or Maestro (Debit) card/s as we need it (as suggested elsewhere £50, £20 depending on how close our flight home is).

Anything wrong with the above? We dont plan on taking any travellers cheques. How much do you think a couple who like their booze and general spending of money on trinkets should need for 7 nights?

What i would like to know is:

1. Cost of Beer, Food etc?

2. Trips.. Whats available (what would you recommend?) and the costs (approx)?

3. Should i keep say £100 sterling for:
A. Tips?
B. Buying Jewellry?
C. Anything Else?
Or would it be better to not mess about and just use Dinars?

4. Can i actually take ££££'s into Tunisia (do i need to declare?)?

5. (Ignorant time!!) Do most of the people speak English (so rude to presume everyone does!!)?

6. Can you recommend any places to eat or general shops to visit?

7. Is there a limit on bringing back items (rugs, pottery, jewellry etc) other than the limits set by the good ol' EU?

8. I am really confused by this whole thing on bringing money back into the UK.... I know we are not allowed to bring Dinar out of Tunisia and thats cool but i am hearing conflicting things about keeping them before i go through security on the way out.... Lets say i have 100 dinars left over (approx £50) should i exchange all or just some of this back into ££££'s before getting to the airport to spend on drinks or whatever in the departure lounge? I dont want to waste money if you understand me?

9. Anything else you can offer advice help on?

I am really looking forward to going to Tunisia but i am one of those people who has to know what they are on about before going anywhere (annoying t**t as some people call me!!).

Thank You!!

My Profile
hi cookie,
i'm just the same but they call me pain in arse!!!!
you might have read comments i've left before so sorry if you have,

money..... i'd take £ travel cheques as i don't trust atm's (even in uk sometimes) take them in small denomations we took £700 (i think) for two weeks there was 4 of us staying all-inc.

trips... we gave £5 note to the bell boy on 1st nite (he could't do enough for us after that) waiter at 1st meal £2 coin and £1 to bar staff after that we gave waiter (we had same waiter all 2 weeks) 5 dinar 4 days later then 4 days after that anothe 5 dinar and last night we gave him 10 dinar. also gave the guy that collected glasses 10 dinar on last night (he was a laugh) the maid i put £1 under my son's teddy bear every other day and on the other days i put 2 dinar (ya i know it's the same but they like having english money lol!!) on the last day my son left her a picture of his teddy with 10 dinar as she did a great job. oh tiping the driver just small change

you need to keep some dinar for the airport cafe as they charge %^&**&^%$ !"££"! (i think it was about £4 for 3 mars bars, not joking) but cheaper if we'd have had dinar. we never got asked on way to plane if we had any dinar lol!!!

yes they speak good english everything is 'asda price' we tried to get them to say 'morrisons' lol
they can barter for their life's you been warned the goverment shops are great,

theres a show called 'the lights and sound of tunisia' must see i really do mean it it the story of how tunisia was born lazer light, horses, water, getting to dress up as a jedi!!! i also enjoyed the welcome tour my daughter (13) and i did it on 2nd week so we could shop in safety and not get lost really sorry can't remember costs (it was only easter 08!!!)

double check things like hair dryer, towels for the beach/pool with hotel they'll prob have www. or someone on here i'm sure will have been. (use the holiday review) also what you can take on plane from uk as i think they might be changing rules again to 2 bags

you'll need a pen on ya when you get to airport as you've got to fill out forms we got ours on plane 1 per person don't loose them you need the to leave lol!!! we never declared any money we had

hope you have a great time we did

kate

Thanks for the advice!

I am still going for ATM's i think as i dislike travellers cheques (due ton the % commision).

I realise its more of a tipping country than here so i will most probably tip in £'s (ill take a big bag of them!).
