Hi
Georgeone is right you cannot get dinars in this country-Tunisia is a closed currency. You can get dinars at the airport, there is small bank there near the baggage belt thingys!
If you are are going for the first time and are getting a taxi at the airport ask the driver how much to your hotel BEFORE you get in his cab. The taxi drivers there can be a bt dear compared to normal tunisia taxi prices. A ride to Port el Kantoui will be around 15 dinars (7.50).
Hope that helps.

Ps yes take sterling travellers cheques for safety -but there is a small commission when you change them. Cash is good for buying some things with ie leather, jewellery you can do a better deal if you offer pounds. Most hotels have a safety deposit box you can use they are either in your room or in a room behind the reception desk.

Re: Money
Hi,
we returned from tunisia this weekend. we took all our money in stirling. some people we were with took euros, and didnt end up getting a very good deal. You are best off changing a little money at the airport, then the rest as and when you need it from the hotel reception. keep your receipt. as soon as you come out of bagage reclaim people will try and push you luggage for you. we let them and just gave them a pound or so in english money, which to them is alot. it was 2.2 dinars to the pound while we were there.
if you have any further questions please dont hesitate to ask.
have a fantastic time, and get prepared to be hasseled constantly.

We took pounds sterling, they charge commission for travellers cheques. Most hotels will change money for you. Don't worry about money at the airport on arrival they accept sterling. Be prepared for the queues at arrivals, if they give you a visa form on the plane fill it in before you get off. There is no charge for the visa by the way. Remember to fill both sections in you need one for the return journey, so don't lose it, keep it in your passport. The exchange at the moment it 1DT + 45 pence.
We just got back on the 8th May, the weather was beautiful.
If its your first time in Tunisia be prepared for a culture shock. Don't get stressed out with the people wanting you to buy from them, a firm but polite NO should do the trick. Tell them you've been before, they don't hassle you quite as much then.
We have been to Tunisia 4 times now and would go back again. Its very cheap and the weather is always good.
Happy Holidays
