| hi there , we are going to Tunisia in May ( never been before )and are getting a little concerned about the money side of the holiday , we have been told to take Sterling and change it there ,but now we have seen reports about EURO'S and cash machines ? is there a charge for using the machines ? I think we were told we could exchange sterling at the hotel ? we have also seen a bit where someone says you loose a bit when you change back from the Local currency to sterling ? any advice would be a great help..our local bank is no use they are like us ... they know nowt thanks for any help or advice , George. :)

| Just returned from tunisia last night, we took travellers cheques and changed them £50 at a time in the hotel reception. Wouldnt advise doing it any other way. Good luck and be prepared to say NO!

| Any travellers cheques are charged commision to change whether you go to hotels or banks. Cash is commision free. No matter were you change the exchange rate is set by the Government and you get the same rate all over.
Every time you change cheques or cash you will receive a white slip. If you want to change any money back at the airport (it's the only place you can change back) you have to hand in these white slips. You can only change back a third of the total back into sterling.
There are more cash machines around but we've had on or two prob's in the past getting money out.
We have been 15 times now and take mainly sterling traveelers cheques and some cash (usually we use the cash to get a good deal on jewellery!!)
Also if you run out of money you can take your passport, credit card into a bank and withdraw money from them.
Hope that helps.
Ps there are just over 2 dinar to the £

| :) hi there Tunisiamad , thanks for your reply but I am not sure what you mean about getting a third of total back ? do you mean if I have £60 worth of dinars left when I get to the airport , I will only get £20 back ?
this looks like I might have to sit at the pool and not change anything ? but I am sure I will get something sorted out ,
again thanks ... G.

| Hi
It is a third of the whole total you've changed-so if you've changed £750 then you can only change back anything up to £250.
For a weeks hol we change 200 as soon as we get there and go down from there eg 50 then down to 20 or 10 depending on time of flight etc.
Forgot to tell you that you can get your first money at the airport- there's a bank near the conveyor belt, also Tunisia is aclosed currency and you cannot take any back out. They ask you all the way back through if you have any dinars.
When you're there tjough it's easier to think about how much you're spending and how you need to finish off you hol's in style.
Sorry about the confusion

| Tunisia is probably one of the cheepest holliday destinations, Celtia Beer which is very good and 5% works out aprox 80 pence a bottle, a 500ml bottle of Coke from a shop near Sousse Medina cost us 1 Dinar (we were getting 2.49 dinars to the pound) eating out is very reasonable, we paid 45 Dinar for a single course meal for 3 including drinks, the only reason it was this much was I had Sole which is expensive anywhere, it made up 18 dinars of the bill alone. My advice is if you want water toys such as lilos then bring them with you with a suitable pump, we saw a lilo similar to ours, we paid £2 in Asda they were 24 Dinar in Tunisia.

| Ok I am just abit worried it will be my 1st time outside Europe I am going there in Sept for 2 wks all inclusive couple of questions
1) will the weather be hot there?
2) we are flying to Monistair and were going to the sun beach resort (borj cedria) I google it on google maps and it is showing a house in the middle of no where and the details say its on the beach front
3) how long is the travel from monistair to borj cedria - we are getting a private transfer
4) is the beer good as we have been told to take a bottle of spirits if we want to get drunk
Please let us know
