Sea in Tunisia is it SAFE ?

Hello all you seasoned travellers , we are going to Tunisia ( Skanes ) in 4 weeks and have heard there are some weird fish with sharp spines under the sand in the sea.can someone tell me if this is correct ? do you need some kind of footwear if you go for a swim or a paddle ?

the sea is pretty safe but watch out for any jellyfish
