Re: Bird Flu & Holiday bookings for Turkey
As you can see Jan there has been little effect with bookings so far. Our reservations have not been affected so far.
The Bird Flu in Turkey started in the East on the Iranian border in a very rural area and the children involved were in contact with sick birds on a farm. The other cases in the North East (I think around 14 at the last count have been directly in contact with the birds) The question of course is can this be passed on from human to human.
It is thought that it can be carried by migrating birds and this could be causing the problem. If it has managed to come to Turkey unfortunately it will probably be able to spread to other European Countries. Lets hope it doesnt come to that and is contained.
The first reports about sick birds was in October of last year and it is more the case of ignorance that has caused the human cases. Many of the inhabitants of the East are extremely poor and uneducated and had no idea that there was a problem.
Lets hope the Turkish Authorities pull all stops to control this outbreak and contain it.

There were some reports in the daily papers today of cases in Kusadasi but not confirmed and have not heard anything on the BBC. I think if these cases are confirmed it looks bad for holidays there. We go every year and usually frequent out of the way rural areas.

I cant find anything about it in Kusudasi what it does say is that Human cases have now been reported from nine of the country's 81 provinces, and that is all at the moment. Here at HW we will monitor the reports on a regular basis and keep you all informed as to the situation in Turkey.

Re: Bird Flu & Holiday bookings for Turkey
yes, we too have booked for 2 weeks in Icmeler in August and unless it's there's a complete outbreak, we'll still be going but saying that August is 8 months away and you never know what could happen - not just in Turkey
Does anyone know how you would stand if worse case scenario happened - would you be able to cancel your holiday and get a refund or loose out. Hopefully it won't get to that stage but it's always worth having that little bit of knowledge under your belt especially when you've got kids you have to think about
Thanks
