Bombs in Turkey

Postby djfrostie on Sun Jul 17, 2005 11:37 pm

very worrying the bomb attack this weekend in kusadasi -lets hope its an isolated incodent...and sincere sympathy to family and friends of the casualties.
we are off to Altinkum in september and spend many of our exploring hours on a Dolmus(mini-bus) Im now wondering if car hire might be a safer alternative as it appears the terrorists are targetting dolmus used by UK tourists?-has anyone any thoughts on this sad subject?

A few thoughts...frightened,sickened and sad.
My deepest sympathy for all those who were caught up in the incident.

My initial thought was..."thats it,I'm not going"....and if I'm honest, that thought might never leave me.
However,
I wll go on holiday,and
I will show my support to the local Turks by going on holiday.

As sadly proven here in this country, this can happen absolutly anywhere.

If these people frighten us into submission then they have won.

All I can do at the moment is monitor what advice is given from authorities, use that advice, and be vigilant in what I do for my family.

I totally agree! I am off to Marmaris in 13 days (not that I'm counting) for the 4th year in a row. Nothing would stop me from going! We work evey day we can to get some money behind us and then what we've left we try to spend on a holiday! It's not nice what goes on in this world and again my smypathy is with all those invovled but this will not stop me going! Of course I will be a lot more vigilant but still this is my holiday and I'm going to try and enjoy it as much as possible!!!! ;)

The Turks are very friendly people and the tourist industry is very important to their future so they do want you go ahead with your holidays. But be careful we just returned before the bombing on the dolmas in kusadasi ( R.i.P. ) while we where there a bomb exploded in cesme on the aaegan cost so it is not a one off. The bomb was put into a waste bin in a non tourist part of cesme. Be Vigilant

I'm off to Turkey shortly and these bombers won't stop me either.

I sympathise with friends and relatives of those killed or injured as I do with those of the London bombs, and the Madrid bombs. Will no-one ever go to London again or Madrid or anywhere else there have been bombs.

Don't let them win. You probably wouldn't get your money back if you cancelled anyway - just be careful - it could happen anywhere even if you went to another country so don't cancel

Enjoy your hols

Both Bombings, London and Kusadasi happened while we were in Turkey also the small explosion at Cesme. The Turkish people were horrified by the events and most of them felt the need to apologise to the British holidaymakers. The Turkish are really lovely people.
We were staying in a very small resort ( Turunc ) and alot of them asked that we didnt go into the larger resorts close by, You cannot stop and put your life on hold because of a few extreemists that are willing to kill for their beleifs but the happenings did concern us very much, and we all were a bit hesitant about the coach journey to Dalaman airport,The kids were exeptionally stressed by it, and our relatives in the UK were sick with worry. Even myself who was standing there giving it " they will not stop me from enjoying myself " it was playing on my mind. I can only say be very vigilant and if you are the least bit concerned about someone or something speak up,Specially if you are staying in any of the larger resorts, Enjoy your holidays but please do be aware of the current situation.

Terrorist acts anywhere in the world is distressing and unacceptable to society.

The aim of terrorist acts is to frighten, cause chaos and harm innocent people. In turn affecting economies and giving the culprits some kind of sick, wasteful power.

I view terrorism like drug pushing. Young people are brainwashed by these pushers into believing that there is a humane cause to be followed and usually USE religion as the excuse. When in fact the pushers want power, money and control of society for their own use.

It is disgusting what has happened in both London and Turkey and their cause will never be listened to whilst acts of terror to society are being carried out ruthlessly.

It doesnt matter where you are in the world there is risk and one must take a calculated risk in deciding where to go and what to do.

I live in Turkey and would never leave because of isolated terrorist acts. I hope that holiday makers will continue to come to this beautiful country with its friendly population who open their arms welcoming foreigners to their country.

The aim of the terrorist is to stop normal daily life and enjoyment. We must never allow them to do this.
