Yes only take enough TL for the first few days. A good very reliable exchange source is via your bank card of HSBC. There are numerous outlets in Turkey and the exchange rate will far exceed any high street UK establishments.

Mmmm! Be careful with using your bank card as the rate can be low as again you are exchanging from the UK. Also there can be charges depending on the contract with your bank.
Best to take a mixture, mostly sterling, enough tl for this few days and bank cards for emergency top up.

Yes - sorry but I meant to say take sterling and your bank card. HSBC will ask for it to show you are a member of that bank and then you will get the top rate of exchange for your sterling. Using your card in any other way will entail charges.
