Duty Free Allowance

With regard to the comment about buying the cigarettes in Turkey and paying duty, the answer to that is of course that the English Cigarettes bought in supermarkets are black market cigarettes and therefore illegal anyway.

Unfortunately until Turkey reaches EU status then its 200 cigs only. Please also be aware that if going to Rhodes and bringing goods into Turkey duty free limits apply which are advertised at the port authorities.

Also when entering Turkey duty free goods can be bought on entrance and 600 cigarettes per person can be purchased to take into the country. They are usually cheaper than on the plane and are around 20/25euro per carton.

You can buy as many as you want flying to non-eu destinations, its just coming back from them its 200 max. Airport staff let you know sometimes this restriction.

junedoc, in that case its illegal. I guess you were lucky.

Hi.
I was searching for information about duty free allownaces on Yahoo and it directed me to this thread.
I have read all the information here but was wondering if anyone could shed light on my question.
I live in Kuwait as a British Ex-Pat and currently have family visiting. Cigarettes over here are ludicrously cheap (for example less than 9 quid for 200 Marlboro Light, less than 5 quid for Superkings) and my visitor would like to take advantage of the prices and bring in his max allowance. I understand that this is 200 max, but he is saying that once he lands in Amsterdam for his transfer to the UK he can buy a further 3200 and bring them in as he will then be in a EU country.
Is he correct, or does it not count as he is only in transit through the airport and not actually visiting the country.
The other thing he is considering is buying the cigerettes over here - 3200 of them - then sticking them in an Amsterdam duty free bag. I have advised him against this but he seems to think what he is doing is perfectly legal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
