This is very unusual.

Turkish people are very very pleasant and love foreign tourists to visit their country. They are very respectful people and the Turkish working in the tourism areas would never do this. This is their business and livelyhood and it would be crazy to turn on tourists as this would affect them financially.

Bar Street in Marmaris is a place for the 'young' and their are some undesirables around. Both Turkish and Foreign Tourists.

For all of the Turkish (workers I presume) to come out of their bars and turn on tourists would be a very stupid thing to do.

It sounds to me as if there has been trouble in bar street, something has happened and then they have come out of the bars and an argument and fight has started.

If someone starts a fight, or steals or doesnt pay their bill, then yes this could create a problem and neighbouring businesses would go to the aid of their business neighbours.

Rather than not going back to Turkey its a matter of avoiding Bar Street, which would be the most sensible thing to do.

It would be wrong to give the impression that Turkish people go around attacking tourists. In fact most families come to Turkey with their children because they feel safe. especially in Icmeler where everyone looks out for everyone, including taking care of tourists.

Turkey is a fabulous place to visit, with some of the most friendliest people in the world and it would be a shame to ward people off because of an incident to which there may be an explanation behind. It certainly is not the norm in Turkey.

I have just come back from Marmaris this morning and can say I have not witnessed any violence at all. I have been going with my 2 girls aged 19 and 12 for the past 3 years and always have a wonderful time. We have many friends there now who always go out of their way to make our stay special......we never want to come home at the end of the 2 weeks. Bar street is for young people but even my 19 year doesnt go there as its so expensive and there are many other bars to go to anyway without going down there.

We go to Beaches, Santana, Captains, Beach Club. We also go to Dr Angels between the main road and the beach front and we go to Adam & Eves on the main street. They are the ones we go to most. Ive managed to find a flight for £209 going on the 11th september with wings abroad. I stay at the Interconti Apartments, i know Charlie (the owner) and his wife and he said we could have the apartment for £10 per night if we want to go back in september.........how can I possibly pass that one up!

We are flying from Manchester, I also tried Leeds/Bradford and Liverpool but the prices were dearer from there and it would cost more to get to them anyway. I will keep looking. We are goin back in July next year but my mate who went with us this year suggested a week on our own with no kids to chill out.
