Hi
My partner and I, and his three kids - aged between 17 and 25 - are thinking about going to Turunc at the end of June. The kids need a bit of nightlife, but the 'oldies' want something that is not too 'touristy', loud, and commercialised - we want to relax. Is Turunc going to tick all the boxes for us? Any and all advice will be welcomed. Thanks

Yes it certanly sounds just what your looking for, we stayed there a couple years ago, there were 4 teenagers with us, there are lots of nice sit outside bars, and one club , so we knew where the kids were at any given time,Lots of choices of where to eat, Turunc has only one main street and everything is compact, small but nice beach, there are water taxis to take you to Icmeler or marmaris if you feel like a change/
We loved Turunc and would go back again quite happily. Please just ask if you want any more info.

Apparently not, they have had building regulations for a long time now stopping it from becoming just that, and to be honest where Turunc is there is not alot of room for more development, It is a lovely small place, but yet you have Icmemler and Marmaris close by if you like something busier.
When we were there we booked a fishing trip from Turunc and we had a brilliant day out, there was a party of 8 of us, we had the whole boat to ourselves, the crew provided all the equipment and bait and plenty of swim stops in lovely little coves, and it cost us 5 each for the day, fantastic.

Hi
I read that you were going to Turunc at the end of June. We have booked the Hotel Turunc from July 25th for 2 weeks and we are taking my daughter and her friend (both 15yrs).
Just wondered how you got on with young people in your party and if you think we will be OK with the girls. We wanted somewhere that would keep them amused but where they couldn't wander far from us.
Also is it as hot as they say 40 - 50 degrees!! And my nightmare every year wherever we go - mossies! Can you tell me are they bad in Turunc.
Not sure if you stayed in this hotel but if so can you recommend any particular rooms or part of the hotel as I could e.mail in advance and request them if so.
Sorry to bombard you with so many questions but any advice would be so gratefully received.
Hope you had a great holiday and really hope to hear from you.
Thanks
Judy

Hi Judy
I don't anything about the hotel other than I think it is sort in the middle of the village.
Some pointers:
1. The weather was very hot (up to 45 C) but very pleasant because it wasn't humid, so you wont have a problem. The sea is great to cool off, and every hotel has a pool as an alternative. The shore entry on the beach has a lot of little pebbles which can be a bit hard on the feet, so I would recommend rubber flip-flops that you can chuck back onto the beach once you are in the water.
2. The village has a really pleasant and safe atmosphere, and perfectly suitable for teenagers who might be looking for some nightlife that won't make their parents worry. A really good place to go is Dream Boys, which is right on the far eastern side of the beach (everyone knows it). They play great music, everyone dances (all ages), and the cocktails are a theatrical event all on their own. The Dream Boys who run the place are very charming and totally above board - your girls will be fine. Our kids had several great evenings there, and we went along a couple of evenings too - it was just great. Best of all, all the nightclubs MUST turn their music off at 1am out of respect for all the local hotels.
3, For day time activities, we would 100% recommend Musti's boat for a day trip. You can buy tickets on the main street not far from the mosque, in a little tour operator (opposite the cake shop) run by an English couple whose name escapes me now. Ask for Musti's boat to go on the Blue Cruise. For an entire day, in which you will visit 5 exquisite bays where the water is beyond description and just heavenly for swimming, as well as a lunch, the cost is 10 pounds each. You just have to pay for drinks - but a tip is to take your own water with you. Musti is very charming and he has a beautiful golden retriever who adds to the entertainment, swimming with all the customers. Everyone knows Musti and Simba. Book as soon as you can - they are small boats and can fill up quickly. And take cameras - the scenery of gorgeous.
4. Some people recommend going to Mamaris. We (and the kids) hated it. It's a total tourist trap, the return journey is long and hot, and there is nothing to do there.
5. We had dinner at Menem's a couple of times (it is a beachfront restaurant on the other end of the beach from Dream Boys). The owner Nidem is very charming, and will talk the hind leg off a donkey. Be warned though - we like him, but he charged London prices for very average food and we felt a bit ripped off. We were in a self-catering place, so we cooked all our own meals after that - at a tenth of the cost.
6. The local wine is dreadful, but the Efes Pilsener is excellent.
7. We didn't do any other day trips - it was too hot and thus required too much energy! We didn't mind though.
8. Invest in some goggles and a mask to do a bit of snorkeling. Buying them out there is a lot more expensive.
9. As I am sure you are flying through Dalaman Airport - just something to know: This is the most expensive airport in the world. We were staggered - 4 pounds for a coke and 8 pounds for a small beer. Coming in is not so much of a problem, as you will probably transfer straight out of there to Turunc (which is 2 hours by car away, by the way). But on your way back to England, you may have the misfortune of being delayed - as we were, for 5 hours. Buy some refreshments to take with you to Dalaman - after your long journey from Turunc you'll want something anyway.
10. You can buy a visa at the airport when you arrive but just be warned that they only take euros for EU passport holders, while UK passport holders have to pay in sterling. This held us up as well at the start of our holiday, as we were told just to bring pounds, and 4 of the six of us were on Dutch passports.
11. If you are there on a Monday, it is worth a visit to the market on the western side of the village - everyone can point it out to you. A lot of the stuff is real junk, but if you want to get some lovely fruit, nuts, nougat, spices and so on, it's worth a visit.
12. Your partner should treat himself to a proper barber shave - there is a shop almost on the beach near the mosque. I think it is 5 lira (YTL) and the men in our group loved it.
I hope that helps? Feel free to ask anything else.
Have a good time - we had a really great time, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Turunc to anyone.
Cheers
Amanda

Hi Amandela
Thank you so much for your reply and tips which will be really useful. It really is so helpful to be able to talk to someone who has been to the resort and who can give you the pointers and the pitfalls.
We are looking forward to it now and I am glad you had a good holiday.
If anyone reads this who has actually stayed at the Hotel Turunc lately I would be really interested in your comments/advice on best rooms etc.
Thanks again Amandela

Have you booked and paid yet? If you'd like to consider an alternative, I can highly recommend our self-catering villa - it was excellent value, very spacious and comfy, had its own pool, 4 beds and 3 baths. And aircon!!! And only 300m from the beach but far enough away from all the restaurants to be really quiet.
I can send you the details - going self-catering is also much cheaper, we found. The accommodation cost us 540 pounds for 9 days (for 6 of us).

Hi Amandela
Yes we have booked and paid in full for the Hotel Turunc. However, thanks for the thought and I would still be interested in the details of your villa as we could perhaps go and have a look from the outside and if we like the resort it could be good for next year. It does sound lovely and great value.
The mossie news is good as I am one of those people who they just eat alive and seem to detect at around a mile away!!!
Thank you again
