Hello! Looking for a quiteish hol where I can explore the surroundings by car etc. Ideally beautiful views and accomodation is not that high on my list, although a pool would be a bonus. Looking to leave in August but would really really appreciate any feedback on areas in Turkey to stay. Have seen some lovely pics and resorts on the south coast, would prefer Med or Aegean seas.
Thanks muchly!!

I think you should go to Calis Beach. It is not as touristy as some of the other resorts. It is around an hour from Dalaman airport. It has a promenade along the seafront where you can watch the most amazing sunsets and a wide variety of restuarants. Calis Beach is a short Dolmus ride away from Fethiye which is a working town with a lovely harbour. it is also possible to visit the fish market, buy fish and have it cooked at one of the restaurants who will then serve it with bread and salad. In the surrounding area is the village of Hisaronu which is sitauted a couple of miles from Kaya --a deserted Greek village. Well worth a wander round before having lunch at one of the restuarants.
Rock tombs are carved out of the hills overlooking the town.

Try Turunc for views and peace, Fethiye for some old turkey, Dalyan for tombs and country and marmaris for shopping. But book car hire fron uk as is too expensive once you get there!

Hi Deroo
Are you looking for a typical resort with British or do you prefer a quiet village setting perhaps with day visitors and some Turkish Tourism.
It sounds as if you wish to explore the countryside of Turkey rather than being stuck in a resort.
If thats the case perhaps Akyaka or Datca would be more to your taste or some of the outlying villages.
Akyaka is on the Gokova Gulf (aegean sea) and is a beautiful village between Marmaris and the town of Mugla. It is about one hour from Dalaman airport.
Alternatively Datca is fabulous again on the aegean and is said to be where God gives long life to people. Many Turkish retire to Datca because of the clean air which is said to eliminate chest problems. It is an ancient city and is actually built upon old Knidos. The new Knidos which dates back 3,000 years is about one hour from Datca. The original Datca village is beautiful. You can also take day trip boats to Symi which is just off the coast of Datca.
Hope this helps.

We stayed at Oscar C4 apartment in Ovacik in May 2008. It was a beautiful new apartment set on the outskirts of Hisaronu in the village of Ovacik. It was surrounded by mountains and had excellent views. I think you would find this area of Turkey ideal. The famous blue lagoon at Olu Deniz was easily reached on the dolmus in 5 minutes. Here you will find turtles in their natural environment. Or take a walk through the forest to view tortoises. If you like water sports this is an ideal resort or if you are daring para glide off the Babadag mountain and land on the beach at Olu Deniz. Fethiye is a bustling working harbour town and offers loads of shops for shopaholics

Hi Carol, yeah you're right... I do want something a little out of the ordinary and to mix with the locals, if you really want to see a new place then you can only really do it with the people who live there. Your suggestion sounds beautiful as does ojl's Hisaronu. I'll look up both these places and see if I can find anything on it. I'm just glad that I've started to narrow down my searches, never realised Turkey was so damn big!!!
Thanks again!!!
Thanks again!!!

Hi Deroo
Know exactly what you mean about the size of Turkey. 4 years ago we went to buy a place in Belek on the Mediterraen coast and hated it.
Our friends bought a place in Hisaronu at the same time and it took them untill now to persuade us to give Turkey another try.
Well I appreciate that I already gave feedback but to sUm up Hisaronu/Ovacik in one word my husband would say

Seriuosly considering Hisaronu, like the look of it and should still be close enough to a beach if I wanna lounge around. I take car rental for a couple days should be a breeze (albeit expensive) but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Deroo if you decide on Hisaronu, get a hotel out of town, Ovacik is best bet going by what you say in your initial post.
