| Hi ,
not sure on how to go with this .
I booked a holiday with a well know cottage hire company.
Without going into great detail the cottage was diabolical and was infested too!
I wrote to the company when i returned also send photos and samples in of "infestation".
I to say the least had the worst weeks holiday ever !
The letter i have recieved back says "We are letting agents for property , your contract is not with us but with owner as stated in brochure" etc etc.
The cottage was not cheap and it was not as advertised .
I dont want to go in details but i cant believe the state of it !
This letter is basically fobbing me off and as an appology they have sent me £100 voucher off my next booking!
I would not book through this company ever nor recommend them.
What do i do.
I would like part or rather most of my money back.

Hi Sue,
Little out of my league here as I deal mainly with cruises, but here are my thoughts.
If you signed the booking form with the agents then I would think that they are responsible for your booking. Particularly as they have already offered you some form of compensation. i.e. the £100 note. They as far as I read are the letting agents.
I would write back stating that you are not happy, without getting to upset with them, and also contact your local trading standard office, giving them the true details of all paperwork you received.
Do not expect all of your money back, unless you contacted them from day one at the cottage. If you continued to stay there your case has been weakened.

| Sorry you had such a bad time Sue. Are the holiday hire company you booked with members of ABTA? Most big companies ie hoseasons or blakes are members.
It might be worth contacting the CAB or ABTA to get further advice, and include that you have contacted these organisations in your return letter to your holiday company. Also do not accept the compensation, tell them that this is unacceptable.
Did you report your problems to them straight away? Or to the cottage owner? If you'd phoned them on the first day they'd probably have moved you...shame

| hi thanks there is no mention of ABTA on any of the paperwork.
I have draughted a letter as what they have sent me is a letter basically fobbing me off with a coupon off the next holiday - which i would not use them again.
If they are not ABTA who can i take it to.

| try the citizens advice bureau, have you looked on the website at all or at the brochure? Not sure if the info about the abta bond will always be on the paperwork
