Anyway, Cartmel or Hawkshead?
Cartmel is on the Barrow penisular on the road to nowhere. Very pretty village but still quite a way from the "Lakes"
Remember there is no motorway into the central lakes, its all small country lanes and so no journey is a quick journey.
Hawkshead is right in the middle of the southern lakes and is beautiful. Hawkshead is much closer to the popular southern villages and towns.
If it was me....Hawkshead. No contest!
