What to look for in self catering edinburgh

Hey all!

Just wondering what sort of things I should look for in self catering accomodation in edinburgh. I'm thinking about getting some where to stay during the festival.

What sort of place is good in Edinburgh? What sort of things should I look out for if I stay during the festival - e.g is it party party 24/7 and will I have noise outside my window all night? I have looked at some sites but they are all confusing and everything is so so expensive! Should I try to get somewhere outside the city? Is it better to go to a hotel?

Its very expensive during the festival.
I stayed in some apartment last year up by haymarket they were very nice well equiped and only 10 min walk to centre so you wont experiance the noise outside.
