wot a hol

We are having our second holiday from tomorrow. We've got a beach chalet (like a shed with running water) at the South Bay in Scarborough (where we live LOL!) We stay at home at night but from morning til eve we will be on the beach, rock pooling, sunbathing, and barbecueing. If it rains (which it will NOT :( ) we will be huddled in the chalet and under umbrellas drinking cups of tea. The good old British seaside holiday is alive and well. Will keep you posted if its any good!

Wow! sounds fantastic, where do you find out about these beach huts? and what do they cost? but i suppose you have to live near the seaside if they don`t have beds.

You contact Scarborough Borough Council for a form which you send in on the 1st October for the following year. However the North Bay beach huts are now privately owned so I don't know if you still get them through the council. I can let you know when I've found out.

The North Bay ones are newer but not finished yet! The South Bay ones are ancient! They really are like little sheds! You get a tap and a kettle, but no electric sockets.

I suppose you could camp in the area on the cheap, and use your beach hut all day, using your base only at night; you are not allowed to use the chalets at night. Some of them are rented to holidaymakers, but many are rented to locals. Some people have annual lets, but theres a waiting list. I only book mine for 1 week, we have days out for the rest of the hols, and just sit around at home!

Sorry forgot to tell you the cost. Its 90 for a week in high season. Cheaper during school. The annual let is in excess of 500 but many people share in groups.
