Reccomendations to stay in Los Angeles?

We've been to L.A a couple of times - mainly to visit Disney (which, if you've been to Orlando, is nowhere near as big or as good - altho the second time we went we visited Disney's Coney Island theme park and that is good). Both times we stayed at the Howard Johnson which is a stones throw away from the park. It was a really nice hotel - staff friendly & courteous, it was clean and the rooms were a reasonable size. There's quite a few restaurants around that area too - I'd stay there again. Disney is actually in Anaheim which is about 35-40 miles from Hollywood Boulevard, Universal, Rodeo Drive etc. Universal Studios do a free shuttle from the majority of the anaheim hotels to their theme park. Most hotels do day trips to all the major Hollywood sites - some even do trips to the Grand Canyon. Don't know any Hollywood Hotels except for the Beverly Wilshire (Pretty Woman) but you'll probably find it cheaper to stay in Anaheim than Hollywood. We hired a car both times we were there cos it gave us a chance to tour around a bit more - we went to 'muscle beach', little venice, saw the Queen Mary at Long beach, Knottsberry Farm (don't know it that's still there, but it was a great park with loads of white knuckle rides). Did our own thing re Hollywood walk of fame, Chinese Theatre, Rodeo Drive and we bought a map and followed a tour bus around the stars homes. We even drove down to San Diego for a couple of nights and visited Sea World, San Diego Zoo & had a drink at the Coronnado (hotel from the film Some Like it Hot). It depends where you plan to visit most - if it's Disney then stay in Anaheim but for all major Hollywood sightseeing (and particularly if you don't hire a car), stay somewhere around there. Days Inn, Ramadas, Howard Johnson type places are usually the cheapest

Reccomendations to stay in Los Angeles?

Postby In need of a holiday on Thu Nov 08, 2007 11:46 pm

We recently stayed at the Beverly Hilton. It is honestly one of the best hotels we have ever been to (and we travel a lot).
Its within walking distance of Rodeo Dr and other attractions (Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard, Universal, Santa Monica etc) are all a short, easy drive away. We felt very safe here.
The hotel itself is fantastic. The Trader Vics bar is a fun place to hang out at night.
The thing that really made this hotel great were the staff though. Everyone we encountered, and I mean everyone, were extremely polite, friendly and helpful.
We are already looking forward to our next trip back to the Hilton and to exploring LA more next time.
