| Try a sweeper search on moneysupermarket. They check out different companies for you - I've used Club Direct a few times going through this search and they over about 3 different levels of cover. Also they are very reasonable and have special rates for couples and families.

| I used Nationwide Building Society.
They were quite competitive.
On a side note, just make sure you get a good one. Don't always go for the cheapest option.
Last year I went through another company, and I was unfortunate enough to have to be admitted to hospital in Florida. Although the hospital treated me as I was an overseas patient, it took ages for a settlement from this end. 9 months to be precise.

| We've used Virgin Money's travel insurance before but never had to claim.
I agree with Bex though, especially with the States, don't skimp on the cover just to save a couple of pounds, it's really not worth taking the risk.

| Try Marks and Spencer but whoever you choose do opt for at least 10 million cover as costs can be astronomical if you have to have medical treatment
