Hello All

Im new to crusing and booked one for our honeymoon.

We took the AI drink offer. but its not very clear what you get.

Does anyone know what drinks this includes is it Alcaholic ones or does it include soft drinks and hot beverages too.

Also does anyone have a drinks list for the calypso.

Thanks in advance

Darren :)

Hi Daz,

Welcome to HW and in particular the cruise forum.

I have sent you the Thomsons Bar list by mail.

Soft drinks as well as tea and some coffees are included in AI.

Any further question please ask, do return you may find others going on your cruise later in the year.

Hi Daz - when are you on the Calypso. Congratulations on your upcomming wedding. Don't worry about hot drinks - tea and coffee are available 24/7 but water has a small supplement. The AI is great if you don't pay for it and like the occasional drink. However wine at dinner is by the glass (the bottle price is on the wine list). If you or your new wife like a G&T or vodka& T then don't just ask for that - ask for the brand you usually drink. These usually incur no supplement. However if you say G&T then you get the cruise G&T and this is a very cheap and inferior gin.

I have been on the Calypso twice and an am on again on 8th (I think) June for two weeks and another week in October. Its a tiny ship but when the crew know that you are on honeymoon they will make a fuss of you. Hope you enjoy the ship.

Hello,

Have booked a last minute cruise for next Monday (29th June 2009) on Calypso, and the All Inclusive drinks package. So at least we don't have to worry about the bar bill at the end of the week.

Having read some reviews I am now a bit worried that I am going to get ripped off. I would be ever so grateful if anyone has a copy of a bar drinks menu, so I can see what is included. my e-mail is alison@a-e-ward.wanadoo.co.uk

Many thanks. Alison Ward

Hi everyone,
just returned today from 2 weeks on the Calypso. Will post a review as soon as I have unpacked. Alison - sorry but I didn't take the bar price list. However there were no complaints from fellow cruisers about the price. I don't think you need worry about being ripped off. There are drinks price lists in all of the bars. You will see that there are two prices for some of the drinks. The lower price is printed in blue - this is the supplement that applies to the "premium" drinks for those on AI and the price in black is the price paid for those not on AI. With each drink you get a receipt so you can check that you are not being charged for something in error. I have only seen this happen once and that was on changeover day when one couple moved to a different cabin for their second week and, for whatever reason, their drinks were charged to their previous cabin during that one day. But the matter was very quickly resolved.

On the AI all ******, most beer/lager, house wine by the glass, speciality coffee, most spirits (except premium whiskey/brandy), are included. Bottled water is about 1.35 per 1.5 litre bottle - the free stuff is desalinated and tastes of chemicals when anything other than ice cold. Where drinks incur a supplement it is still not excessive. For example a measure of Baileys is about 1.05. One night we had rough seas and I had an early night so I brought a drink (and what a drink) back to the cabin. I had 4 measures of Baileys and 2 measures of Remy Martin and I paid just over 6 pounds.

With the all inclusive package 2 glasses of house wine are served per person with dinner - however a tip to the wine waiter early in the cruise will ensure that number is increased as required. The house red wine is a Merlot and very drinkable. The house white was apparently a bit rough. AI stops between 2am and 8am. Between those hours all drinks are full price. Three thing I did notice this year - a result of cost cutting no doubt - the wine waiters were giving some cruisers their second glass of wine during dinner before the first glass was even half empty. Also the ****** were not full strength and the orange juice at breakfast (which is from concentrate) was diluted to a level which made it undrinkable.

Bal - only now seeing your post. Sorry no sky sports at all that I am aware of. The TV stations in the lounges appear to be the same as in the cabins - a view from the bridge, destination services station, two film stations, Discovery and a news station.
Hope this helps.

Hi My first post on here. I am going on the Island Escape in September with an all inclusive drinks passage. Someone has mentioned that you only get two glasses of wine with dinner but if you give the waiter a tip they will look after you. My question is - do you get the same waiter every night? Also, what would be a reasonable tip to ensure free flowing wine? Thanks.

Hi
I have had AI Drinks Package on Thomson Emerald, Spirit & Destiny and the waiters usually give you as many glasses of wine as you want. All the wine/drinks waiters we have had have been friendly and great, just get chatting with them and they will look after you. At dinner if it is open sitting where you might be seated at different tables each night you will get a different waiter, but if it is fixed seating you will get the same waiters. You can tip them as much at the end of the week. You should not have any problems with them, enjoy!
