Cape Verde with a Baby?

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone can offer me any advice on taking my daughter who will be 6 months to Cape Verde.

Im thinking of staying in 1 of the Riu hotels. My main questions are, are the hotels family friendly?
Do you need any special jabs to visit there?
Any what is the healthcare like, should we need anything for our daughter.

Any other advice you think is relevant would be appreciated

Thanks :D

Hi,

Some friends of mine recently took their 9 month old to Sal and didn't have any problems. I am not sure what hotel they stayed in though.

They did check out with the doctor whether they needed any vaccinations. It doesn't seem that you do exept if you are travelling from a country where Yellow Fever is found (not likely if you are flying from the UK). Malaria is not widespread in Cape Verde and is only really a minor concern in Santiago. There are plenty of pharmacies and clinics on Sal and Boa Vista and a major healthcare centre in Sao Vincent. Take out Health Insurance as well.

The one thing they did say to me was that although they went in February and it was hot, it was also a little bit windy. These winds die down into summer. It does apparently get hot, especially in Sal and the beaches tend to lack shade, so be careful in that respect.

They really enjoyed their holiday and would consider visiting some of the other islands.

Hope this helps. I also found an article about Cape Verde below which tells you a little of what to expect.

Regards

Amy
