Went to La Costa presentation last week in Leeds and I walked away with a brand new Tomtom Sat NAV system worth 170 and a holiday voucher for upto 6 people to Spain, Portugal or Tenerife!! I only have to pay 29 airport tax per person should i decide to take the holiday otherwise I pay nothing at all and I keep the Tomtom. Note: The 29 charge is not collected by La Costa. Now how bad is that?? These guys are definitely genuine, but you may disagree with their sales tactics. What you have to remember is that they are trying to do business with you and if you are not interested in their business just sit through the presentation and say "no thank you" at the end of it - simple.

Hi ,
We joined CLC trial membership for the 34 month period, but decided it was a bit too much to pay every month and decided to cancel after 3 weeks, when we went for the the presentation obviously they used their high pressure sales techniques to get us to join , the presentation took nearly 3 and a half hrs, all sounded good at the time. when we wrote to them 3 wks later re cancelling , they wrote back stating that we were over the 2 week cooling off period and we would be taken to court if we did not pay 3700 in the next 10 days or so. We have not got that much to pay them, so we will let them take us to court.

Please dont let them pressure you into taking the trial membership without knowing the full details, read the small print, which we did not , and which they will not tell you about. they are quite expensive when you have to pay for the flights , admin fee, and maintennace charge of 150 for each holiday.

I am not at all involved with CLC. Just a private individual.

When I went on the free holiday there was absolutely no necessity to go on a daily tour. Only point was the 2 - 3 hours worth of them trying to sell their goods. We said no and that was it.

It is not a free holiday. As I said before there's never a free lunch. Expect to pay something. I paid out 500 quid for a week's holiday for FIVE people in a fab apartment with air con, sony widescreens, hi fi, very very nice kitchen equipment etc etc, jaccuzzi in balcony and sheer luxury. It was tremendous value and there was no "bad treatment" after we refused to buy. We just got on with our holiday.

Just returned from Club La Costa 'Prelude' week at Mijas Costa - California Beach resort. NOT recommended. Poor apartment - smelt of damp and alternative accommodation offered (after 2 Days) unacceptable.

Painters outside made terrace unusable for three days. We usually go away when we have decorators at home - certainly don't expect it on holiday.

5 hour, yes 5 hour sales presentation had to be suffered.

Avoid Club La Costa like the plague!

Hi to all, Please read this and it should answer everything you need to know if you are wondering about CLC

We've done the presentation and bought the trial membership although we haggled and got it for 2900 instead of the 3500 they originally told us. We were also told that for each one of the 6 weeks that we took from our trial membership, the trade-in value would be reduced. We took 4 of the weeks and not only did they give us the full trade-in value they actually gave us the 3500 it should have cost us as they had no idea that they gave us discount. I fully believe that if we had taken all 6 weeks we would still have had the money taken off what we bought.

After the trial membership we signed up for the Destinations package which is one week a year instead of points. We were given lots of assurances that we could give weeks to our family and friends and lots of promises were made. These sounded so good we simply couldn't resist and signed up, we did this in Scotland. We also haggled another free week which we are taking in Costa del Sol in Feb 09.

Whilst in Tenerife this year they tried to sell us more stuff (god bless'em). They are desperate for people to buy points as they can keep on upping the points value of their resorts so people have to buy more, if you dont keep on buying then you'll be unable to have a full choice of resorts and weeks. We didn't buy points as we told them that we had the other membership and that we were told we could have bonus weeks as often as possible. It turns out that most of what we were told in Scotland was a BIG FAT LIE to get us to sign up. By the time we realised that it wasn't true it was well beyond the 14 day cooling off period. Even though we made complaints, as soon as they knew for sure that we didn't have these promises in writing they effectively told us it's tuff. (there's obviously more detail involved but I've been through it on here before).

The result is that we are now stuck with a membership which cost us around 10,000 in total and 415 a year maintenance.

The accommodation is very good, the sales people are very forceful not to mention habitual liars, (I havn't met one yet that hasn't told us lies) and if you dont want it they become very rude.

My advice is that the free week is ok and the trial membership is good too but dont pay the asking price. These are loss leaders to get you in the door so they are quite good value. BUT IF YOU CANNOT SAY NO TO THE HIGH PRESSURE SALES THEN DONT GO AT ALL.

Lots of people on here give good reviews but I cant categorically tell you that 2 hour sales pitches take 4 hours and our day around the resort with a salesman in Costa del Sol took 6 hours and not a minute less. The accommodation is good and for a family who need 2bed accommodation (sleeps 6) it's good value (only the trial membership not any kind of full membership) but for just a couple it's overpriced.

Just remember if what they say sounds too good then get it in writing in a contract not just scrappy written paper, or it's not true. Remember they LIE. If you're unsure about anything ask them to point that bit out on the contract and I guarantee they'll be stuck.

Feel free to ask me more about this but if you want to have worry free financial and holiday transactions then steer clear of these people. THEY ARE CROOKS AND I STRONGLY URGE YOU ALL TO LEAVE THEM WELL ALONE IF YOU DONT WANT TO GO GREY.

We feel so strongly about their wrong doings that even if we lost our money I would still party if they went bust.

Hi,

Read the new regulations concerning Consumer Protection on the Timeshare Consumer Assiociation site (news 26 May The Consumer Protection Regulations become law in the UK) which became law since May 28th, 2008.

Marketing techniques (misleading, aggressive sales practices) which are described here are offences since that time in tht UK and clearly still happening after that date. You now can report the breach to your local trading standards office, hopefully to protect other customers in the future.

Greetings,

HOLA !

My wife, daughter and son have been members of CLC for the past 9 years and i can honestly say that every time we have holidayed with them we have had a fantastic time and have no complaints whatsoever. sorry we did complain one year and it was resolved very quickly. The kids clubs have been superb and really well managed and the facilities that are available on site are fantastico ( just showing off my spanish ). We have been to the flagship resort just outside fuengirola on more than 10 occasions and all the staff are so professional that you really feel you are in good hands for the duration of your holiday. I think the pools are great for the the kids and we have made lots of good friends over the years. we spent 12k on the points but would have spent at least 20k to get holidays of equivalent standard through travel agents etc. We like the flexibility of choosing the standard of acc to meet your needs and can therefore use more or less points each time also dependent on time of year. We havn't tried their worldwide resorts so cant comment there. i do think that CLC should be very careful about which companies they use as agents because they are clearly giving them a bad name. join CLC and Im sure you will have a great time, but do bargain hard!

We have Club Lacosta points which we now are selling. We have had good holidays and the resorts are excellent. We are now selling them however as we cannot find the time to use them as we now have a touring caravan. So anyone who likes quality holidays are more than welcome to make us an offer.
