The Office of Fair Trading has issued the following Press Release

www.oft.gov.uk/news/press/2009/10-09

They are calling for anyone approached – not just those scammed – by fake buyers, resellers and “we can get your money back” operators to contact them with the details.

If you have been called or have responded to an ad please let them have the following details:-

Name of the company
Name of the person who you spoke to
Company address if possible. Contact numbers, e-mail addresses given.
Their web site, if any.
Copies of offers, contracts &c.

What was the reason for the contact? For example –
• We have a buyer for your timeshare/ points.
(If you were told that they could buy or re-sell Diamond/ Sunterra points please say so as no-one is legitimately able to do this)
• We understand that you have been scammed before – we can get your money back.
• We can ensure that you get all your money from a cashback scheme that you are in.

What did they want from you or want you to do e.g. visit their UK office, see them in Spain &c?
Did they ask for money and if so how much and for what reason?

Do you know how they got your personal details?

If it was an ad – where and when did you see it (attach a copy of any press ad if possible) and whose name was on it? If there was no name who did it turn out to be when you responded?

Any other relevant information.

Send to the UK European Consumer Centre ecc@tsi.org.uk
saying that it is in response to the OFT Press Release.
