Have read some posts and have sorted out the flight side, but wondered if anyone can give advice on guided tours etc. Do you have to get a guided tour? If so is it advisable to book it first? How far are pyramids from airport?

So, as you can tell, i really do need some advice. Any tips, advice is most welcome.

Thanks

Went to Cairo a couple of years ago, all my photos can be found at www.pbase.com/iaintwoeyes

We booked a trip through a travel agent in Sharm. Paid £105 pp. We flew to Cairo airport and had the use of a minibus and guide all day. I seem remember the pyramids are on the other side of Cairo to the airport and the road to the pyramids is very very busy.

What will surprise you is that the pyramids are right on the outskirts of Cairo and not in the middle of the desert. Watch out for the ****** man selling bit and pieces at the top plateau. Its so funny to see an arab in full whites speaking perfect ****** slang!!

Sorry I can't help with the guide.

Iain

Thanks for the info. When you say that you paid £105, was that flight there and back? Can you remember where you booked it all? Any answers would be gratefully recieved.

Just back form Egypt and went to Cairo for a couple of days to visit the Pyramids, they are about a 50 min Taxi ride form the airport. we booked a guide and he was great, he is a Registered English Tour Guide, he grew up in Cairo and knew everything about the Pyramids, we also booked him to go to the Museum, where there is thousand of exhibits and he knew everything. He not only helps you with the tours he can arrange transfers to and from the airport and also advise you on how much you should be paying for stuff from water to camel rides, our tour guide even took me to a pharmacy to buy something for my mossie bites. His name was Mahmoud Saied his email is skyston77@yahoo.com Tel:002 0108439522, you can contact him for a quote, he works freelance and very reasonably priced, we would recommend him.
