Festive Mediterranean Cruise - December 2009

Discussions on Norwegian Cruise Line

Has anyone been on the 2008 (or earlier) version of the above cruise?
It departs from Barcelona and covers both Xmas and New Year periods.
I wondered if it celebrates Xmas and New Year on board?

A friend has just returned from a 1-week cruise in the Med, on a Spanish owned Ship, and apparently there was no Xmas spirit whatsoever,as the Spanish dont celebrate it like the Brits. Fair enough, but as NCL aim their cruises at the British market, are they different?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi TGV,

Welcome to HW.

NCL is American based now, yes that also includes 'Med' cruises, though American celebrate Christmas day it is not like the British way, however they are great fun cruises and New Year is a WoW.
Certainly if you can get a good price it is a really worth while cruise.
Priceson board will be in US Dollars so that takes some working out.

Lots of cruise companies offer good deals with the English Ships P&O, Thomson, Ocean Village and Island the only ones that charge i Sterling, but they are usually in the Caribbean or Red Sea for Christmas.

I have been on most lines over Christmas/New Year and every time we have had a really great time.

Just do not expect the full British holiday on any of them.
Cruising is like 'Being in the Garden of Eating'

Many thanks for your welcome, and prompt reply!

We have previously sailed with NCL (Alaska), and found them to be superb.

We just didnt fancy going away, and not having any Xmas 'spirit' at all, which is what our friends experienced with their Spanish-based Cruise ship.

Once again, many thanks.
