Hi Everyone
I have been on cruises before, but never Grand Princess.
Tipping has always been optional on the other cruises, how do I let the them know that I would like to pay the people that help me rather than pay $10.50 each per day (there are 4 of us) this will work out quite expensive, especially on a budget.
Will I have to let them know at the beginning of the cruise, the end or every day?
Does anyone know how many formal evenings there will be on a week long cruise, just so I know how many dresses to pack.
Can you tell me what the atmosphere on the ship is like, most ships I have been on are quite friendly.
Grand Princess

Hi Shrinemonkey,
Welcome to HW and the cruise forum.
The service charge can still be removed or reduce at Reception (Deck 5)best done first day but any time counts.
You may also request envolopes on last day should you so wish.
The $10.50 per day is expensive with four of you even for a seven day cruise.
You may also if you have a sound reason have the 15% service charge take off each round of drinks if you consider service was poor. but only at the time, again at reception.
I had $1.31 taken off in June simply because I asked for a receipt, and they never gave me one, even after asking again. This is the only way to keeep a rough check of expenditure, and I personally think a reciept is normal practice.
There will be one formal night on your cruise, either the first Sea day or forth night. Other nights will be smart casual, so you can dress up a little if you like.
Crooners is best bar in the evening, but you need to get in early (deck 7)
Next best is the night club on deck 13 after 10pm.
Have a great cruise. nice ship
