Firstly you need to decide if you want quiet or a busy"ish" holiday. Goa is split in to two main areas, the north and the south.

The north is much busier than the south. Most of the larger AI hotels are in the south. Where as the north has b&b hotels because of the massive amount of restaurants in the area. I have only been to the north and loved it. Going back in April, 100 days to go...woo hoo!!

The main resorts in the morth are Baga, Calangute and Candolim, often refered to as CCB or BCC strip. This is also the main area for domestic tourists from India and so is quite busy. However a short taxi ride north takes you to some fantastic deserted beaches. Just you and perhaps a dozen others along with a few shacks to eat at....brilliant!

I couldn't tell you what to avoid as I dont know what you dislike. Have a look at my photos from March 2008. We stayed at the Marinha Dourada for two weeks.
