Many thanks for all the info, I came very close to getting caught out by the 'Class Action' compensation business today. You saved me from being even more gulible than usual.

No it wasn't. Remember the golden rules....

1. Money up-front=scam.

2. Come to our office for a meeting = scam.

But go ahead and find out for yourself. It'll cost you but at least you will have been convinced.
I have been contacted by these people on behalf of a so called "owners club" and invited to go to one of their offices to join up with a legal "class action" re. the exhorbitant increase in maintenance fees on my timeshare. They failed to send letter of details by post or EM. Having read about ITRA/ETOO on the web, I am not keeping my appointment (at present anyway).
I kept my appointment in Maidenhead ( the same company). You can read the comments on http://itra.net/forum. You might have to log in. No one is sure, if signing over the timeshare will give a good outcome. Find out in 5 - 6 years time.

I have just received yet another call about our timeshare. We would really, really, really love to get rid of it. The call was asking us to attend a meeting in Maidenhead - already been there trying to find a buyer through a consortium!! They said there was a class action underway and they were looking for timeshare owners to join them. No win no fee basis .... am I being silly in thinking this just might be the way to get rid of our timeshare? Should we go to the meeting??? Does anyone know of any legitimate company willing to buy our timeshare? Thanks - this is my first posting any help would be very much appreciated.

You must understand that there is no need for you to go to a meeting to sell your Timeshare or join a class action even. The only reason you are required to go there is to get you in front of high pressure sales people.

Take no notice of what they say on the telephone. You must understand they lie. You can say "they told me xyz" on the telephone and the saleman you are now in front of says "They weren't supposed to say that" - but now you are in front of the sales person.

There is no market for timeshare (take a look at ebay) and I am sorry you own one if you feel you want to get rid of it. I understand there is World Timeshare Hypermarket and Aberfoyle but I don't recommend anyone. Ask the Timeshare Consumer Association - they may be able to help you.

If you feel desperate enough to go, do not take your deeds and most of all do not take any form of payment - especially not a credit card - and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING ON THE DAY.

If they say that it is once and for all offer - remember - they have appointments next week. They lie. To say that when it isn't is actually against the law.

Hi Fred 2

Have you had any dealings with a company called European Sunny Solutions who I believe are based in Spain. I had a phone call from them offering me a fantastic price for my Timeshare in Gran Canaria. Claiming they had a buyer just waiting to buy,I couldn,t believe their offer, only drawback is they want 1300 Euros upfront, which they assure me will be refunded on conclusion of sale
Any advice much appreciated

Do not be tempted it will be a scam. If you cold called and asked to pay upfront or attend a meeting to get rid of your Timeshare it will be a scam.
You have been warned.
There are plenty of similar posts on this subject different names but all wanting 1300.

I've just been contacted and invited to Maidenhead as well. Just like the 80 year old mother of one of the correspondents I have lost money and have been pestered to the point of distraction. I managed to get them off the phone just now by saying that I would visit their website first. (They would not send me an email with details unless I had made an appointment for Maidenhead on the spot).

Thanks for your feedback. It really appears to be impossible to work out whom you can trust. Since there is no law out there to stop these outfits from trying to con us, I guess we just have to warn each other when we do have an "experience".

One genuine lawyer (family friend) suggested that I offer my resort one year maintenance for "free" in exchange for them telling me what they intend to do in the future if I stop paying. (I don't need my timeshare any more and I will be on benefit soon, if I have to pay the rising maintenance charges.) If it comes to a trial, I'll let you know what happens.
