Hi, What hotel have you booked?
I visited Dom Rep bout 6 years ago and thought it was fantastic....didn't want to come home.Let us know which hotel you booked and maybe I will have some info....the hotels over there are amazing from the rooms down to the people working there,if its still going may I suggest you do "The Monster Jeep Tour".This thing is brilliant, you have to climb into this ex-usa army jeep via a ladder...no joke...and then it takes you through some of the most breathtaking countryside, where they did some filming for Jurassic Park.
Clear blue waters, soft sand, which someone cleans daily with a little garden rake..the list goes on.I'm sure where ever you have booked this holiday will be great. :thumleft:ohh if you try the local rum which as I recall they called diesel...be prepared for a mother of all hangovers...

Let's face it anyone can be robbed anywhere in the world - especially if they look like a tourist! BUT my husband and I stayed at the Victoria Resort in Playa Dorada in 1997 ish we visited the casino at the Fun Tropical a couple of times - it's a very impressive hotel and has excellent facilities.
Don't just stay in you hotel though playa dorada is as safe as anywhere in the world and that includes most towns in the UK.
There are a few hawkers on the beach but they are licenced and if you simply so no firmly they have to move on or risk getting their licence revoked. Also look out for the time share touts - they are very persistive - we found replying in german helped (Brits are considered a soft touch - probably rightly so!)
Also get out of dorada - the island is a jem, the people are beautiful. Be prepared to mix with them, see the real dominica and you will have an amazing time. :thumleft:
