We are planning our honeymoon which will be the beginning of May next year. We would love to go to the Maldives but are a little worried about the weather and whether there is enough to do for 2 weeks. We would also like to go to Sri Lanka and thought that this would be a good opportunity. The worry about this however is, if the Maldives is really nice and then we leave to go to Sri Lanka we don't want to be disappointed and wish we had stopped in the maldives. We don't really want to do Sri lanka first as we would rather the rest and relaxation from the maldives straight after the wedding.
Also we would like some advice about the differences between the islands and accomodation available. The dream would be to stay in the best resort in the most superior room but unfortunatly our funds don't stretch that far. So do we look at a higher graded resort (4/5*+) in standard accomodation or a less highly rated resort (3*+) and upgrade to a water villa?
Thank you for any advice.

I have been to the Maldives twice and they would be a brilliant location for a Honeymoon. A two counrty option would be ideal as the Maldives are purely for people who just was to snorkel/dive and sunbathe. Usually there is not a lot happening in the evening, except film shows, hermit crab racing and drinking cocktails.
If you can, try for a water villa, they are often detached, so more private! You will get a sundeck and steps down to the water.
Can't vouch for the weather, as both times we went in Jan/Feb.

My boyfriend and I have been looking into the same twin centre holiday. (although not for a honeymoon! YET) First choice offer some great twin centre holiday sfor Sri Lanka and the Maldives whihc include all transfers as well as two excursions in the Maldives which will break down on the sunbathing. Look into it.

Maldives/Sri Lanka twin centre
We did a twin centre break 2 years ago. A week in Sri Lanka and a week in the Maldives. It is in my opinion the perfect combination. Look at Ranweli in Sri Lanka and Kuredu in the Maldives. An abundance of culture in one and beach paradise in the other.
Perfect.
Perfect.

Hi to anyone thinking of going to SRI LANKA. BEWARE DON'T !!! We have just gone to sri lanka for our wedding with First Choice. Yes a reputable company we thought! This country still has a bad civil war and you are advised not to go out of the complex alone. WE arrived after 11hr bad flight with First Choice then a 3 hour transfer from the airport to the resort hotel Club Palm Garden. The bus was old and the driver a local lunatic. We nearly had a head on crash with a lorry ! Hence to say after arriving through the poorest cities I have ever been through, and several military police stops we decided we did not want to stay at this hotel, In Sri lanka at all. We had to book a return flight for the earliest which was 2 days later and return without our wedding being a disaster. We have been to Manchester to report to First Choice along side some evidence photos of our disgusting and unclean, damaged room. They are in the process of investigating our case but ABTA are very interested to take it further and if we don't get all our money back it will go to court!! This has been a truly traumatic time and I hope no-one else falls for the promises and nice photos in the brochure as it is all lies and certainly don't book a wedding as the weddings dept are all youngsters who do not have any experience booking a wedding. We had to meet with a First choice customer service representative and the lady head of booking for Sri Lanka has never been. they use a local sri lankan company whilst out there and it is all bribe money when you get there. Maldives may be better but we were advised it is just for sunbathing with a selection of watersports. There were complaints in the hotel whilst we were there and many had bad experiences to tell. Save your money and go to another country as there is no culture here just poverty !!
