Definitely the statue of liberty, also the empire state building. I would also suggest travelling on the subway, as they are so clean and we felt totally safe on them, it was great to be able to say that we'd been on them.
we also travelled on the staten island ferry (free!)
Basically anything they do will be a total experience, simply because they are there, in a city that has been in a million films, and they will be walking around with their heads up just looking at the skyline!!
I really hope they enjoy themselves. Fiona

I woulf get a pass for the Gray Line us downtown loop at the start of your trip. It takes in all the major sites such as Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero & United Nations plus you get e glimpse of Chinatown , Grenwich Village, SoHo and Times Square. The tour guides are super. Intereting with added humour. Plus being hop on hop off allows you to explore each area if you wish.
Not only is this a good introduction to New York, but I also found it useful for orientating myself for the rest of my holiday.

If they're interesting in shopping then Century 21 and Macy's are definately my two favourite shops if looking for good bargains. But of course you can't go wrong with a walk up 5th Avenue for a true spitit of New York.

If they want to go up the Empire state Building be there early to avoid queuing. It is also worth a look in Grand Central Station to see aomewhere which has been at the heart of many famous movies. A walk around Central Park is lovely if you have nice weather too.

I know this seems a lot, but I imagine that no matter how long they go for they'll leave wanting to come back for more. That I suppose is the magic of this great city. Its worth having a rough itinerary in mind before they go so that they can work out how to make best use of time, concentrating on one small area of the city each day.

Have a great time!

Hi, I much prefer the Rockefeller Centre building to the Empire State as it is a lot cleaner and the views are better from the top. It has an indoor as well as an outdoor viewing area and is not as crowded as the E.S. Go for a cocktail in the Marriott Times Square revolving bar - if you go just as it opens - this time varies but is around 5-6pm - you can get a good table and watch the sunset. Also, have a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge - there is a walkway/cycleway above the traffic and the views of Manhattan are great from the other side. Get a day pass for the transport system as it covers buses as well as the subway. Get a good map which has transport networks on it and take a compass as when you come out of the subway it is hard to know if you're facing north or south!

We went to NY as part of our honeymoon and on the last night we went on a dinner cruise. The food was good as was the entertainment and the views from the boat at night were amazing. It was a bit cheesy but I loved every minute of it. The onboard entertainment performed songs from shows and then a DJ played some music. I booked our tickets on expedia before we went.

Also did Liberty Helicopters tour of island, quite expensize but well worth it.

Hope this helps.
