Dubai and drugs

Dubai has a zero tollerence on drugs and recently has jailed a man for four years for having 0.03grammes of cannibas in the tread of his shoe!

Is this right or wrong....would this worry you if you were travelling to Dubai?

Surely this would only worry you if you were thinking of taking them in or out of the country, I would like to think that there was a better way of stopping them from coming into this country, so maybe we could learn a lesson.
Maybe by having a stricter policy here it would deter those that continually bring them here.

The bloke that got jailed stepped on a "fag end" and that was enough to send him to jail for four years!

Is that fair?

Then I question what was in the "fag" in the first place, I still maintain that a harder line has to be taken, Living in this area I see all too often the misuse of Drugs, if we are able to prevent this whether this is as a result of letting people think that there are tough measures then this can only be good, where do you draw the line between soft and hard drugs, When does it become ok for them to be taken, used and sold.
Do we not have to look at the consequences of drugs, the effects it has not only on the dealer, but the user and the people that surround them

Saudi doesnt appeal at all to me, a place where they still stone people to death etc for something stupid like being raped or adultery. I also heard the blokes still gives there wifes and daughters beatings to keep them in line too. Why do I want to go somewhere like that?
Alright the drugs of minimum amount in his shoe was his, but what if it had been you accidently stepping on someones disposed roll up at a uk airport then arriving in saudi to be sent down for it!
Saudi is not somewhere I would take my family as I believe in Freedom.

its quite alarming what has happened here,i dont know the story behind this but if this gentelman has walked into the airport and stood on the butt end of someones joint and inadvertently picked up traces of drugs then im appalled at whats happened to him.

i would have thought the next step would have been to check to see if he has traces of drugs in his system,i cant condone a country that decides a person is guilty just on the evidence here, there has to be more avenues to follow here before guilt is proven.

i am against drugs and the sooner they are elimenated from our society the better but not at the cost of locking people up because they stood on a joint and have traces of drugs on there souls is ridiculous.

just think this could happen to you, what would you think then while pleading your innocence and no one is listening, just a regime that says your guilty fullstop. there are to many misscariages of justice in these middle east countries.

Should have said that the man was a non-smoker! It was someone elses disgarded butt.

In another case, a Swiss bloke was arrested for having 3 poppy seeds on him from a bread roll eaten at Heathrow Airport!

Some of the other things that people have been arrested and jailed for include importing Melatonin and Codeine and how many of us buy Melatonin to combat jet lag?

Court and sentencing takes place the morning following the arrest. The bloke with 0.03g (grain of salt size) of cannibas in his shoe was number 8 in court that morning. The judge heard 130 cases in a few hours. The blokes case was heard and because there was no defence, the trial lasted no more that 60 seconds. Remember he got four years!

He didn't appeal and therefore got a Royal pardon from the crowned prince, who celebrates his birthday by dishing out a few pardons!!

I'm sure that this won't be the last time this subject hits the news and so watch this space......

I have read about this and zero tolerance is an understatement,, my neice worked there for 3 years and it seems their judicial system is guilty until proven guilty. I dont think I would travel there at the moment and it doesnt seem like things will change anytime soon.
