New Orleans -- first visit

Trip planned this year. As I am a Classic (Original) Jazz fan where, apart from Preservation Hall are the best venues to hear what we now describe as "original dixieland jazz"? Is the paddle steamer boat trip worth it? What else in NO is a MUST SEE?
Also any tips on the best place to hear Cajun/Zydeco music both in NO and perhaps further over west in and around Lafayette?
How many days in NO itself should cover most of what there is to see?
Any tips would be helpful
