have you heard the latest from ryanair, they were doing a prize for 1000 euros for funny suggestions for next discretionary tax,and seems they want to implement one of the suggestions,
now they want to charge poeple if they overweight on their bmi index, and seems 20,000 people have voted for it ,i think its absalutly terrible they can discriminate against poeple like that, i for one wont fly with them again, have look at website where it says news

So do Ryanair now do a weight and height check on all passengers before they board so that they can calculated a passengers BMI? Does this also mean passengers will have to check in even earlier to allow for this to happen!!! Happy flying with Ryanair!!

I'd say it is just another PR stunt to get more press coverage for free. They operate under the motto - any publicity is good publicity.

Hi maggiew
Are you winding us up? Where did you get this info from? As you do not plan to fly with them again do we assume you fall into these categories!!

Not sure the last part of your comment was necessary. You should never assume, even if it is a wind up.

As yet it is just a vote they are asking people to participate in. It could backfire as the question is being asked if very thin people will get extra baggage allowance as a result. It could also force them to make their seats wider if they are found not to be a standard width.
I'm going to wait and see - I'd be very surprised if the discrimination laws let them do this.

I would rather they gave the 3 euros for a smoke a pop.
If only I could get Ryan Air to fly to the USA.

its on their website if you care too look at the news part,at top of page,i dont think its a wind up ,anyway even if it is ,they have no right to be insulting ,where will it end ,will they do drug testing ,will they do alcohol testing ,will they ban disabled people, same few months ago when he tried to implement one pound to use loo ,that was awful, some people may have bladder problems or suffer other illneses, its a case of someones greed for money overiding all principles of humanity and compassion for other people, and whether i fall into any catagories is irrelevant, can u imagine the embaressment at airport for some people ,might as well put sign over their head.

Hi maggiew
Thanks. I've now read the news item on Ryanair website. It states "With passengers voting overwhelmingly for a ‘fat tax'" but I bet if they do implement this, and other restrictions, customers who overwhelmingly object will vote with their feet by moving to other airlines. I suppose, at the end of the day, for the customer it depends on how much you are prepared to pay for their service, whether you are prepared to abide by their regulations and do they offer the destination you require. Surely Ryanair must have asked their legal people to look at these suggestions before they carried out the online poll so ensuring they do not break any discrimination laws. Happy flying.
