Got stuck out in crete on the 13th september the day they went bust. Had to pay to get our own way home as the CAA in heraklion airport was total waste of space and just kept tellin everyone to go to athens.

Cut along story short have put our claim in for our expenses about three weeks ago seeing if anyone has received their money back from expenses and did anyone have any trouble

many thanks

sam

I've just received a refund from my credit card company for flights I booked via XL.com. They have stated in a letter that they have initiated a formal dispute on my behalf under the mastercard regs.

Hope this is the last I hear about the matter as I have already had to pay more for substitute flights.

i see some people have managed to get refunds, we booked with holiday direct and were due to go away 3 weeks after the xl crisis. we re booked with bookable holidays less the air fare that they said would be refunded later costing us another £400. when we returned they sent a form asking what we had claimed, there were 3 boxes to tick:
1 claimed from credit card.
2. rebooked and had full refund.
3. cancelled.

i phoned up bookable holidays as none applied to us, they said to write on the form that we had rebooked without the full refund. which we did, that was in September. we have heard nothing since, is this a common story? or have we slipped through the net.

As I quoted already, so this would be why you may not of yet heard anything back

we were due to fly out on 13/09/2008 which we managed to do after having to pay another £2000 for flights. our claim was passed to the CEGA from whom we recieved a letter from on 10 dec 2008 after hearing not a word for 4 months i decided to ring them only to be told our claim had been returned to freedom direct who had since gone into admministration. i have tried to ring atol and sent emails but have had no reply i was wondering if there was anyone i could contact concerning this as my patience has just about run out

I booked a holiday on line to paphos for 4 adults and a baby for September 2008 , paying the deposit in Dec. 2007 by credit card and the balance in August 2008 from my bank . When XL went bust i managed to get replacement flights but was approx. £1000-00 out of pocket . I duly filled in all the forms and sent them to ATOL . After several months i received an aknowledgement letter and an assurance that my claim was being dealt with . I waited another couple of months and then received a letter stating that as i had paid my initial deposit by credit card , the credit card company were responsible for the whole amount under section 75 of the consumer credit act . I was very sceptical about this but nevertheless i penned a letter to them requesting my refund . I enclosed a copy of the letter from CEGA , a copy of my credit card statement for January 2007( I had to ring them up and get a copy of the relevant statement which cost £5-00 )A copy of my bank statement showing the balance being paid out in August 2008 and details of my booking with XL . Much to my surprise i received a letter a week later agreeing my full refund . I had to sign a document and send it back which i did by recorded delivery . I am now waiting for the cheque to arrive this week . At certain points i felt like giving up the fight as it all seemed to be so complicated and felt as though i was getting nowhere . I was very disillusioned by it all and had almost written my money off. Thank goodness i didn't give in . To all those still waiting my advice is keep pestering as through perseverance and nagging i even got a phone call from CEGA on my claim and advice on what to do next. GOOD LUCK !!!
